Wish you had included Gillian Anderson. She toggles between her American accent and her English one, depending on where she is in the world.

As someone who has lived all over the world and US, I can say- it’s not really that crazy. I lived in France for a year & I didn’t even notice that I was having a bit of a French- American accent when I came back. It’s not weird that if a person spends a lot of time in another region, they will adopt a bit of that. Think of kids - it’s all abt where they grew up, the more time u spend in one area, and with the people in that area, the more u will, naturally, tend to mesh that accent into ur original language. I have no issue with this, cuz I’ve lived it. Just sayin…

Madonna & Johnny Depp have both always cracked me up with their fake wannabee British-sounding voices; and, more recently, Austin Butler w/his "can't shake it" Elvis voice... but that crazy Elizabeth Holmes really takes the cake with what she has done!!

I don’t think they do it on purpose. JD is typically living with Burton and Helen and he spends a lot of time in England. I typically have a Mexican accent but the moment my sister calls me my mom says I turn full Dominican. I am Dominican but I grew up in Mexico for a couple of years. If I’m next to someone that has a different Spanish accent I will quickly pick it up. I have done this since I was a child and I don’t notice. My mom always makes fun of me. I can’t tell that I am talking differently.

@@LadyVenVen LOL if you don't think they intentionally do it. I would love to be a fly on their wall(s).
@LadyVenVen5 ай бұрын
@@loveforeignaccents I just don’t see why we have to assume JD does it intentionally. People accents change. I moved to a different school every year in elementary and I would speak differently every time. It’s very normal. But I’m not here to convince you 😂

The thing people need to understand with “accents” is you’re not born with them. You develop it based off of where you live and your environment. I’m confused as to why people are confused by worldly and well traveled people doing this.

Yeah, I was in England for a few days and I somehow got the accent creeping in. It was annoying but I literally couldn't help it. Then I went to France where it was effecting my French and people kept asking if I was British until it finally faded.

I've suspected for a while now that a lot of American women seem to be faking a hispanic accent. Probably to appear more diverse than they really are.

I was born south of the Mason Dixon Line and then raised north of it. When in grade school and junior high, it was pressed upon me that I had multiple issues with how I spoke. What they claimed to be a speech impediment was actually a southern accent. So by high school I essentially had a standard American accent similar to Ronald Reagan. My Texan accent was drummed out of me because I was surrounded by people who found the southern accent laughable and offensive: a sign of ignorance. I have also been exposed to British comedy and Canadian television in my teens, and this also had an impact on how I speak. Sometimes I'll say the word "about" as "aboot" instead of "abowt." When I drink alcohol, my southern accent comes back a bit, which is one of the reasons why I don't like to get drunk in public. I say all this to point out that there was a time when one could listen to the accents of others and determine where they spend the majority of their time and in today's world, where travel across "the pond" is a hundred times faster than it used to be, accents are more ephemeral. Yes sometimes people intentionally use accents for affectation, but also sometimes it's just a byproduct of our experience. If you lived most of your life in one country, and then spend several months in another, you're going to "pick up some stuff" and it won't necessarily be intentional. We just are who we are.

Most of these are not accidental, if any of them are. Many of these are just examples of code switching, and saying they are "accidentally revealing their real voice" is just an attempt to scandalize it.
