When Choosing Lenses for YouTube or Photography

Which lens should you be using when shooting KZbin videos. Why would you choose one lens over another?
This video talks about what changes when you change lenses and how to use those effects to build a background in your photos and videos more intentionally.
Wide angle lenses will make your subjects face more round, which can actually make some people look better and some people look a lot worse. While telephoto lenses will not only flatten out their face, but also pull the background towards you, in effect.

Great video as always. What I miss from most of these demonstrations is the intimacy aspect. I mean, you can say that a 16 mm "distorts facial features and makes the nose look way bigger," or you can say that a 16 mm "makes your face look like it is talking to me from a one-foot distance." Because if you actually look at someone from that close, they do look like that. Having two eyes might change that effect a little bit as opposed to a single lens, but still, the effect is there. EDIT: 2 minutes later, and you're talking to me about that in another video. Excellent job.

Haha, love the edit. I was going to say that’s an excellent point and I sometimes make it as well! I was just thinking about a “when to shoot telephoto and why” video somewhat in response to the sentiment of ‘zoom with your feet’ and how sometimes that’s not the point.
