Thank you for this. I had this happen to me last week. I tried to save a woman from drowning. I did cpr with rescue breaths for over 30 minutes until the paramedics arrived, sadly she died. I felt I had failed and have had flashbacks and thoughts of what if I had done this or that. Your video has moved me very much.

Thank you for your service, and for this message. It meant a lot to me. If you’ve given CPR and are struggling, and you haven’t sought professional help, I encourage you to do that as soon as you can. For some people, it doesn’t get much easier if you try to just “push through it,” or if you feel like those around you can’t understand. The message this man gave is so accurate, and I didn’t realize it for a long time. You did something amazing, and you have strength and courage. Thank you again.

Thank you so much for theses videos. I am watching them all. unfortunately I was at an auto accident, there was 2 young girls in one car and i woman and a passenger in another suv. The car was t boned trying to make a left turn at an intersection. There was no breaks applied it was full force at probably speed limit 40 MPH. Enough force to move both vehicles completely out of the intersection. No matter what we did or did not do its was just to bad of an accident and one of the girls died at the hospital an hour after she arrived. I keep thinking maybe I should have done better, So i went out and bought all the tools to do better and here i am learning off you and I am going to the local fire department to see if i can get more training. I am AED/CPR certified but the more knowledge and more abilities the better. Thank you.

Thank you for this video. I have been dealing with this very subject. I work in the medical field, and have never been taught this. After my father collapsed from chemo, i vowed to never do CPR again, since I couldn’t save him. As my BLS certification has come due once more, I have found myself in therapy for PTSD since it has put me in fear of saving others. But this video has shown a new light on the subject, and I am grateful to ponder a different view. I wish they would teach us all about CPR after effects, and what you have explained in this video, as part of our training.

Thank you for this post. It has only been a few days since I had to perform cpr on a complete stranger who collapsed in front of me. Luckily another person joined me and we performed CPR for roughly 15 minutes before help arrived. Unfortunately he did not make it. I cannot help but wonder if I did everything that could be done. Were the compressions started quickly enough, was the rescue breaths enough, did I go fast enough. In the end, I have to accept that at that moment we were the best chance that the gentleman had to survive. We were there and trying to the best of our abilities.

I lost my wife last year. She had a biventricular ICD pacemaker put in 7 months prior to her death, she had several cyanotic and shaking episodes but no cause found. I am a former public safety and medic. Took Paramedics over 10 minutes to get here and I was going back and forth from my wife to door every minute. At 10th minute, she was not responsive and I started CPR and Rescue breaths (that's how I am trained). Turned out after all of that and paramedics arrived did get a heartbeat going but when I go to hospital she was brain dead. They also found a subarachnoid Hemorrhage at autopsy. I have been struggling with what I did or did not do soon enough. I was told they could not see hemorrhage on CT, that it must have occurred after death, which makes no sense to me. I am clearly still struggling with this, trying to logically explain this so I can accept it. I am still not sure I did enough soon enough but this video helps me a little bit to find some peace with myself. I now understand that CPR at clinical death only slows down biological death, which may have been occuring at the same time as the hemorrhage that was going on. The doctors said that I should not blame myself that they would have been in the same position without all the drugs and the defibrillator to stimulate the heart. In time I will try to find peace with this but this does help me a bit and I hope it helps others too. They don't teach this in CPR/AED, EMS, Paramedic school but they should.

i believe so, bc once you have it you have a chance of getting another (if you don't take your heart medications). kinda like ankle sprains; once you get it, you become prone to it (if you don't strengthen it after being immobilized for awhile lol).
