I’d tried one out in the shop for a few minutes a few months back and thought it was phenomenal, then I went down the American Pro II rabbit hole for a while and was dead set on getting one of those. Wasn’t sure the Player Plus would be as much of the “genuine article” as the Am Pro II, or as good. But now that I have the Player Plus and I’ve bonded with it over the past week, the Am Pro II can get ****ed! This guitar took pole position pretty much immediately, and will be the standard any future guitars have to match or beat in order to make it into the collection.

I got the SSS player plus in Olympic pearl with a tortoiseshell pickguard. It's amazing. I only needed to do a slight set up on it after I changed strings (I play 10's) because the bridge was popping out way too high after I changed them, but after watching a couple videos, I can proudly say that I feel slightly comfortable doing that now. I've been practicing on some of my cheaper guitars as well. But seriously, it's great. Like you said about the color, because mine is very pearlescent, the light hits it so well and it is beautiful.
@greg6162 Жыл бұрын
That’s a beautiful color! I want that in HSS but I’m not sure about the noiseless coils? I’ve heard them compared on KZbin and I like the original Alnico pickups I think. Not sure if I like the noiseless yet. I’ve heard the SSS and HSS player series and the SSS has better breakup and range if that makes sense? I really want the new HSS player plus as a do it all but I love the finish you got in SSS and being I don’t own a strat maybe getting the one you got would be better? I don’t gig so there’s that also Edit: Gotta love those locking tuners as a new guitarist for me also IMO… but that Olympic Candy Apple Red finish though 😍
@Casey3-P-O Жыл бұрын
@@greg6162 personally, I like the noiseless single coils. You do lose a bit of tone, but if you have a good amp, or good amp modeller, you can make up for it. I actually ended up removing the bridge position single coil and I replaced it with a Seymour Duncan Hot Rail, which is a single coil-sized humbucker and now I think it's perfect. I also changed my pickguard to a plain black pickguard because I already have another guitar with a tortoiseshell pickguard. I really love it now. It's my favorite guitar. I've always loved Olympic white strats with black pickguards, and since mine is Olympic pearl, I think it's even cooler. In my opinion, the noiseless single coils still sound like Strat pickups, and it's awesome not having to deal with the 60 cycle hum. I especially like the SSS version of the player plus because one of the tone knobs can be pulled up, allowing me to have the neck and bridge pickups on together like a telecaster, and I can also have all 3 pickups on simultaneously. I think the HSS player plus also has a pull knob, but I'm pretty sure it just splits the humbucker into a single coil. So it's really all about preference. Do you prefer to get Tele and Strat tones, or do you prefer to have a full sized humbucker that can be split? In my case, I wanted to be able to have more pickup combinations, but I also wanted a humbucker, and I'm really happy with the hot rail. It's very high output with a lot of mids, but if you're not into that, Seymour Duncan has other single coil-sized humbucker options that are less hot.
@greg6162 Жыл бұрын
@@Casey3-P-O So I bought the Olympic pearl SSS Strat and I love it. The only thing as a new player and the fretboard being 12' I'm thinking of doing what you mentioned about putting 10's on it. I haven't had it setup yet but it plays very well out of the box and I have EB 9's and 10's sitting here, but I know you said you had issues putting 10's on and I'm not comfortable working on guitars yet. String change would be easy but the action is so low (not a bad thing just the lowest I've ever played on a guitar) and I think putting 10's on might make it possibly unplayable without a setup? I wish I had the confidence and technical ability because I would just slap 10's on right now. It stays in tune and I've been playing the factory strings so far. Was your action really low too.? Also, what did putting 10's on change setup wise... is the action setup specifically for 9's? Because it seems like it was setup from the factory specifically for 9's, but it was setup very well IMO but I feel like this would be so much better with 10's especially with the fretboard having that 12' radius. I started jamming with guys at work as a full band we have a drummer, bass and two guitar players now as a 4/pc. Bought an Alpine white Epiphone Les Paul Custom and that's a fantastic guitar but I got it from a certain 3/letter co that sold it new from a return. They gave me 100 refund back and I took it to a master luthier in my area just a few days ago and he's going to put grover rotomatic 3x3 locking tuners in so I can change the 10's if I need to myself. I love both, but something about the LP seems more my style. It could be because I only played it for 3/days before I dropped it off or the fretboard seems easier to play because of the strings and it being smaller than my Strat. I played a Tele at GC that felt so smooth so I think the smaller fretboard is appealing to a beginner like me. I feel that the Strat makes me a better player because it seems harder to play, and it seems slightly heavier (Strat is just longer I think) than my Epipohone LP... but it might play totally different once I put 10's on the Strat? But I will say even though Epiphone Les Paul's quality has gone up drastically, I still think the Fender Player Plus Strat is built way better, it's not even close IMO. The Epi will be nice after I get it back but it has fret buzz on low-E (1st-3rd) but that Strat quality if you didn't know better looks built to American standards and the finish is probably my favorite next to silverburst that Fender has. But I'm a sucker for white guitars and that pearl just glistens in the sun at band practice outside. I'm glad I got a SSS and humbuckers though, I'm pretty much set for any tone. I get compliments from my band on how good my Strat sounds and I really like the noiseless pups that came with it and I think they're underrated for what they are

From what I've learned about the Player Plus, these body's are pre routed for HSH if you ever wanted to change the neck PU out. Also, it's is super easy to switch out different configs, you can have SSS, HSS, or HSH, it's all a relatively simple pickguard/pickup swap.

The first Player Plus I've seen prior to this video was the Tele and thought: Are they reissuing the old 80s and 90s Plus line again, but on the MiM Player series? This Strat looks like it's a yes AND no answer. For those not familiar with the Fender Strat and Tele Plus series, they were released around 1987 to 1998-ish. The PLUS implies 22 frets when back then, they only had 21 frets. They all had Lace sensors (gold on the standard Pluses, Red, blue and silver on the Plus Deluxes which is referred to as Rainbow sensors, and I think blue and purple with a dual coil in the bridge of the Plus Ultras. They had the bridge and saddles just like this Player Plus, and a Hipshot style tremsetter above the springs, TBX controls on the bottom tone knob, and locking tuners. After this original Plus series ended, they stopped using Lace sensors altogether and just use these noiseless pickups now. The Fender Noiseless pickups are really good though and Lace sensors are hit or miss with many people. I have a 96 Strat Plus and love the gold lace sensors. With that said, it does look like they were going for the old Plus reissue, but nixed the tremsetter and lace sensors. Whose to say if these have TBX controls, but it would be cool. Despite not a faithful reissue, I think I like these and would rock one, and never had a problem with MiMs. I loved my 96 MiM Strat and regret ever selling it. I even liked the pickups on it, lol

That Strat really sounds good, even in the humbucker setting. Most humbuckers in HSS Strats go from muddy and dark to thin and overly bright. This one doesn’t-it sounds good either way. And the metallic green finish looks cool. Normally I’d have gone for the SSS configuration, but I’d make an exception for this one. My favorites from this new Mexican series are the 3-pickup Teles, but I’ve already got a US-made Tele like that, a ‘98 American Deluxe. The best of both worlds! Regarding the push/pull knob on the Strat, I’ve had the same problem with Strat knobs-the fluting makes it hard to grab. A rubber O-ring of the right size that can fit on the top portion of the knob can help, but it won’t look vintage. You’d probably have to glue the O-ring in place.

I ordered my lefty player strat a few days before the player plus lime got announced. Kicked myself for missing out on the green before remembering that I'm lefty and they weren't gonna offer the plus for us anyways.

I'm not really surprised. My MIM Strat from about 5 yr ago is a great guitar. My Morello sig has a fantastic neck. I love the green !! It is stunning.

A lot of 95/96 MIM strats had Tex-Mex pickups in them which were super hot, if I remember correctly. I have one from that era and it took years to figure out why it sounded weird compared to other MIMs I played. I love the feel of the neck and the weight of the guitar, so I ended up putting GFS 70's voiced pickups in it and it improved the sound immensely.

Hi please reply it would be really helpful - do you think this is better than the HSS American Special they used to produce ? Used price of that is similar to new price of this. Thanks in advance.
