We all know that when Joshua and the Israelites walked around the City of Jericho, the walls came tumbling down! But what archaeological evidence do we have that this extraordinary event occurred? In this episode of "Basics of Biblical Archaeology," Dr. Doug Petrovich takes us through the history of this fascinating city.
This is part 6 of a 16 part series entitled "Basics of Biblical Archaeology."

Does it seem like a foreshadowing of the 2nd Coming with Trumpet of Archangel making walls of this old world fall? Jubilees liken sons of Levi Priesthood as the family of angels in heaven that you will find hinted at in some very old Rabbinical commentaries, but offensive to the Rabbis I mentioned it to. Is it too much like Christianity making our Messiah the incarnation of Michael that rested upon him?

It's hard on video to really get a sense of the scale of this site, which you described as, and the maps seem to indicate was very small. Question: If you were to line up a crowd shoulder-to-shoulder around this site, how many people would fit in the line? It seems as though the men of Israel would have had to stand many ranks deep in order to fit around such a small city.

One theory of the fall of the wall was loosening of the stones due to sound vibrations from marching around 7 days. I think they marched around 7 times on the last day with shouting and blowing of shofars to make such a din as to cause the wall to fall outward. This could be scientifically reconstructed in a laboratory/ A high pitched noise can break a glass, so sound vibrations so the theory is sound, so to speak.

If One found information of past history historical evidence. where would one go to get such a item looked at or studied. Not trying to prove anything but for what information is on it. To me information is looking like what a lot of people are looking for. Not all, but it will effect the thoughts of most. To point I'm not sure if I want to bring forward just yet or when. Thanks for the videos 👍

This guy stops short of mentioning that the roots of Jericho go back 11,000 years. How does that fit in with the biblical timeline?
@mwright_boomer
@mwright_boomer 5 ай бұрын
The date of 11,000 years is based on secular presuppositions. Data must always be interpreted-it never “speaks for itself”. And everyone interprets it according to what they already believe to be true about the world. Secular archaeologists and Christian archaeologists have the same data but different interpretations.

@@mwright_boomer , Of course young earth creation requires a denial of radiometric dating which is consistent with the presupposed belief. Secular science doesn’t presuppose anything. It’s based on proven data and facts. There are Christian archaeologists who don’t agree with you. Not all Christians are young earth Christians.

Precisely.. And it's important to remember that Ramses was not specifically named as the Pharaoh of the Exodus as many believe (because it does say the Israelites were building store houses at "Pi Ramses"), but that does not mean he was the Pharaoh at the time. It is the name attributed to the location at a later date and used by scholars to identify the location that people would be more familiar with. Kind of like saying "My family immigrated to the United States and lived in New Amsterdam". No, you would say they came to the United States and lived in New York, because almost no one would know what New Amsterdam is (look it up if you don't know). So the Exodus Pharaoh was Amenhotep ii, who clearly checks all the correct boxes on terms of his length of reign and the fact that his SECOND born son became Pharaoh after him and not his first (who died in the final plague). His reign aligns with the dates of the Exodus as it aligns with when the Israelites entered Canaan and then destroyed Jericho. Sad that when you do a Google search, they display Ramses II as the Exodus Pharaoh, but lots of us know better!! Love Biblical Archeology, and LOVE this series. Keep up the great work. If you want some great detail on the dates, find the movie "Patterns of Evidence - Exodus" by Timothy Mahoney. He does a fantastic job of putting all the pieces together.

Evidence that the pharaohs had time machines because Amenhotep III ruled 1388 BC to 1351 BC. Petrovich is still using the depreciated 19th century dating that Garstang used. This is confirmed by synchronisms based partly on the Amarna Letters. So the scarabs were buried long after 1406 BC. And, come on. A scarab of the first year of a pharaoh doesn't make its way 700 miles into a grave the same year.
