That other half was a PAIN to get out, but after picking at it with picks and a flathead I was able to finally get it to become loose and pulled it out with small pliers. Must've been 2 hours at this thing, but worth it in the end compared to what a shop would've charged.

Once you got the replacement... Did you just push it back on the tube and bolt up the water pump? I just did the same thing and there isn't info available for actually reinstalling this thing without pulling the timing cover

So i accidentally damaged the pipe that seal goes around it ?? Did i screw up my engine and can i use red rtv sealer under this gasket to seal up the small scratches
@Endgator3 ай бұрын
For anyone wondering the same thing, it is okay if the scratches aren't too deep. Use RTV sealer and make sure the gasket is installed correctly, and you should have no issue. If you bent the pipe, chipped it, or made large deep scratches you may need to replace the pipe. However I scratched mine getting the gasket out and have had no issues with it by just using RTV sealer.
@texasoweee3 ай бұрын
If I didn't put gasket maker will coolant leak into the oil ? Also how do you replace the tube
@Endgator3 ай бұрын
@@texasoweee im not sure how to replace the tube since the scratches I had didn't warrant that. if you don't put the gasket maker on it may leak if the scratches were long and deep enough, but in most cases I wouldn't worry about coolant leaking into the oil. If it was leaking into the oil there would likely be signs that something is wrong, like the motor running weird, unnatural oil texture, or temperature issues.

Once installed does it have to be pressed in? Was unable to press it further ended up tearing it when pressing with a socked. Does it just slide in and water pump itself presses it place after installation?

How did you get it out if you don’t mind me asking? Had coolant leaking from my water pump. Went to replace it and came to find out someone changed it before and that piece was actually torn. It’s split in two just like you said and no matter what I do I can’t seem to get that back half out

Thank you for this video!! I literally just did this on my friends 2012 3.7L Mustang. I mistakenly mistook the timing cover seal for a water pipe seal and just ripped it off lol. After realizing my mistake this was the first video I found. Glad to see I’m not the only one who has done this haha. Anyway I managed to get the steel banded portion of the inner part of the gasket out by picking and prying on it for 20 mins. Unfortunately all the parts stores were closed by this time so I’ll have to order the part tomorrow. Were you guys able to install the seal easily or have any tips? I’m hoping a little lubricant will help install it.
@ivnpnz81842 жыл бұрын
Yes it installs pretty easy specially with just a little oil or grease so it can slide on easily

@@ivnpnz8184 Hey I tried removing the seal and it tore. I got the front half of the seal off. But the back piece is still in there. I've been spraying some WD-40 to maybe loosen it up. Am I going to have to pull the whole timing cover off?
@ivnpnz81842 жыл бұрын
@@JoshuaRando you don’t have to pull the cover off. You just have to pry the back of the seal of with a small screw driver or a pick. You can also use a small hook pick and pull as I grip on it.
@cliffmassey98254 жыл бұрын
the entire seal will come out the front. Once i got the part with the embedded metal band separated and off (grease the tube first then pry around with a flat head screwdriver) then used a pick to get the rest out. Took about an hour. Be careful to not scratch the tube. Use silicone around tube when replacing the gasket. DO NOT take the timing cover off. $2K+ job. Keep picking at the bastard. Stay calm.
@libertypromo3 жыл бұрын
Any more help anyone, please? I have tried several picks and worked at it a long time. Which pick did you use? Did you pick in between the tube and seal or in between the timing cover and seal? Mine seems really stuck. I did get the outer half off, but the inner part is just really tough.

Hey, just curious. I had replaced my water pump and now have an oil leak from my timing cover on this engine. There's no way an oil leak could be related to this process, right? The water pump only touches coolant, right?
@ivnpnz81849 ай бұрын
The pump has the o ring around it that seals the timing cover. That could be it.

I would suggest looking around it look at the corner or edges of your valve covers as well

There is one guy who has a video replacing the water pump on a 2012 F150 Ecoboost. In his video he replaces this gasket and of course it looks easy but it's not. So I went to remove mine and it tore and I've used picks and flat head screwdrivers and so far, no luck. I'm not sure what I'll have to do to get this out. Unfortunately I've scratched the top of the tube a little and I think I can smooth it out with a small flat file I have. Whoever this guy is and I'm trying to find the video, he's giving bad information. If you don't have to remove it, DON'T because you'll be screwed. I wish I found your video. Suggestion, change the title and take out the "When doing a 3.7 non turbo" and leave it as "Ford F150 water pump DO NOT REMOVE timing cover gasket" because what you are saying here is correct and will save people a lot of frustration and grief. Also, this is the same part number whether it is a 3.5 or 3.7 boost or no boost.

@@ivnpnz8184 Thank you for the info and posting the video, I'm breathing much easier! Now I'm having a problem finding the red o-ring on the top pipe. Ford parts couldn't find it. I finally found it on their parts website, it's called an "Intake Manifold Seal" and the MSRP is $ 26.33 for that little o-ring. When I check for fitment it supposedly is the wrong part.
