Elvis had the skill level of a beginner.. They did the honorary thing with him. Having him around created good PR. However his skill wasn't even basic yellow belt level;. In fact was terrible, But he was Elvis so we let it slide.

Evis was a black belt, I took karate and I was a yellow belt, trust me, Elvis was no yellow belt. He may not have been in great shape, stamina wise, but he had mastered the moves. Stick to cheap mortgages Skippy.

He took it up during his time in the army in the 50s, so I suspect he was fairly decent at it by the 70s.
