Graham was always a true gentleman, as he handed his media interviews very well, despite certain members of the press acting despicably towards him. Looking back at 1993,it was a bitter disappointment not qualifying for the 1994 World Cup. I always wondered if England had made it, how well they could have done. I still think that was a very good squad, but alas:it was not to be. Rest in Peace Graham.

Tactics poorly planned and rushed training - a team that struggled to gel at times and I would argue that Chris Woods' injury must've undo some cohesion at the back. An honourable man and a good manager. He was saddled with one of if not the worst England teams of all time, a particularly bad one too. Carlton Palmer and Geoff Thomas were getting caps in those days 😂

He was a lovely guy yes it didn’t go to plan but getting abuse from Dan and having stuff thrown at him and his car was totally unacceptable

What a humble gentleman, didn’t deserve the savage treatment from the rag media and so called English fans

Shearer missed most of the qualification campaign. Had he been fit it might well have been a different story.

Turnip didn't do the job so well as believed and it's a shame Harry Redknapp didn't try and Venables shouldn't have been sacked for Hoddle from 82!
@TheDvdral3 жыл бұрын
There wasn't that much around at the time. Clough was near the end, the leading clubs managers were mostly Scottish I believe, Venables was busy playing CEO at spurs. Other than that you were looking at maybe Ron Atkinson or Howard Kendall. Taylor had done well with Watford and Villa and probably deserved his chance.

@@veggie42 Redknapp was manager of Bournemouth in 1990 so a bit early for him, maybe should have got it when Hodgson got it. Venables is a strange one, he definitely had other financial interests at the time and he never did a qualifying campaign as all his matches were friendlies until euro 96. Hoddle was decent, until his weird views on faith and karma came to the surface!
