Santoro, Rios, Tomic, Kyrgios, and Dolgopolov all had an abundance of talent and skill, but you do not beat Federer with magic tricks when Federer is a wizard. The players Federer had the most trouble with were those who did not lie down with a huge amount of grit and determination like Nadal, and Djokovic.

It helps that those with grit that gave him the most trouble were also goats in their own right😂

Being able to generate the FH spin that Nadal did is a talent. For Djokovic, really if Federer were the younger player, I don't see Djokovic winning the H2H or even that many Slams against Federer.

Roger made good players look bad- (he hit winners, off his opponent's "winner").

never heard Federer grunt so much on a hard court! Certainly on clay occasionally. Nice upload. Dolgopolov is a great player, unorhtodox but great.

You grunt when you have to make an effort, and with Roger, he has to make an effort when he's caught late, hard to do.

Unorthodoxy but it's not like he has clear advantage over the others. Dolgopolov always had a low winning rate on the tour. Sometimes he plays great, other times he just plays like top50.

I've sometimes wondered if hitting the serve on the rise has any advantages physics wise. At a glance, it would make sense that the speed of the ball already traveling would give you more power, but it's hard to believe that the loss of control and the general slowness of the ball in a toss would really help all that much.

Leyton Hewitt, Safin and Roddick could have made it big without Federer. But the swiss maestro spoiled everything for them.
