When Flexo? When Digital? When Hybrid?

After 20 years of working flexo only we decided to invest in a Xeikon digital printer. We've had it for 5 years now and there is a lot digital printer manufacturers won't tell you. For example, embellishment ad-ons come from a separate machine, which can increase the price significantly. Overall, our Xeikon is very stable, but when ever it breaks down the costs of repairing the machine are much highger than in any previus flexo we've ever had. The price of a digital label against a flexo label can be 400% higher, so you have to find industries that are willing to pay that price for a small amount of labels, instead of going to the local pirnting shop to print that label for about the same price. Don't get me wrong, it's a neccesary technology, but we wish we would've known more before purchasing it.

It was so refreshing seeing a young lady running a press. I’m a Digicon S3 omega press operator and the only female press operator on my shift at quite a huge company. I hope more women come into this industry because it’s not as intimidating as it may seem, I love it.

W&H is building a new hybrid press. Its huge in the size of a W&H Miraflex II. The future of printing will be interesting.
