And here it is, the missing epic, the lost masterpiece... the one that the rest of the world got a _disgraceful mockery of_ instead of an export. Few things have made me more sad in the history of the videogame industry than learning I might never get a chance to properly play the end of the timeline for Strangereal. (Also, the truth about Nemo and the events of the game is the single most frightening reveal possible if you see the trends in IRL combat flight platforms.) A true high concept sci-fi story. I really want a sequel (in terms of an Ace Combat game set not long after this one) where the corporate war starts, and the ominous force of destruction that keeps swinging things mysteriously is Nemo. Setting up the player character as one of those outliers not predicted and watching as the plan for Nemo derails and Nemo reacts. A worthy opponent that isn't Dision? Surely Nemo would have to respond, even if the mission is complete. Nemo fly's and fights, that is it's existence. Plus it would make for a great final boss to have a confrontation with a previous player character that is canonical to Strangereal's timeline.

If Ace Combat 2 hadn't been the strongest drug ever made, Nostalgia, I would've picked this game as the best game in the series. and i played all AC games in half a year, before the release of 7, and after that 6's pre-order. and still 3 comes on top for me, because of "Ambition". edit: i feel like the game would lose it's atmosphere if it was remade in a more realistic style. taking a realistic design style, is a style, and it's biggest flaw is that it has no style, and waters down any atmosphere that is related to games and tries to compensate it by making it look like a movie, it is a poison that comes from the movie industry, because no real effort was made to evaluate video games as a medium. "making a game realistic" has been mistakenly seen as something that every game company must achieve, but i think it's undervalues video games and shows how much people are insecure about calling video games more than child's play. style doesn't make a game more mature, even if games don't look mature, they could be, but dummies can't muster enough pride and courage to say it. I want Ace Combat 3 to be remade in this PS1 older graphics but actually go all the way with it.

Dision truly was an absolute sad man, he got cheated on by his own partner in front of himself by himself and then imediatelly saw her die and then went on to get purged in the future at a high probability rate if Simon's algorithms were correct. Can't say that he didn't deserve it though, that's what he gets for manipulating Rena on all timelines and all of the atrocities due to his sublimation plot. I Wonder if we'll ever see another AC game with this cyberpunk setting again though, we got somewhat close with the AI plot of AC7 but the game still felt very modern and aside from some of the drone designs and space elevator, most of the game felt very present day in its presentation. EDIT: The OST is also goated, it's my favorite out of all of the games.

No he didn't get cheated. You need to understand that there are 2 Disions at that point. One is the real human Dision, another is AI Dision created through sublimation. Easily my favorite game of the franchise, speaking as someone who started with 04 just as you said. I like how you mentioned the flight model specifically, and I think you can really see it in play during the post-mission replays. The way that the planes gracefully drift about through the sky was absolutely enamoring, and I was shocked to find out people didn't enjoy how it handled. Honestly I wish the latter games had a similar model. Also something of note, the animated cutscenes were all done by Production I.G. Very nice video! One thing I don't understand with the story is how would Dision and Nemo interact with their squad mates? I mean everybody assume they are both humans. (since the shock of the revelation of Dision being sublimated) They both have no physical bodies since Dision was already sublimated and Nemo is an AI. A lot of communications between the characters happen remotly so I can understand that they can have a fake avatar. But Keith hinted that pilots still had some interactions between each others. I think at some point, if you save Keith's life, he says something like "we should drink a beer together". And Dision being his best buddy, I bet they'd met each other often. Or maybe it didn't happen since the attack where Yoko died? Maybe it's a little plot hole or maybe I'm missing something, what do you think? Anyway, I like the overall plot, even though the motivations of Simon are a bit silly in the end. I'd LOVE to see an upscaled version of all these gorgeous cinematics.

There are a couple of interactions where other characters are talking to you and say things like "Oh, still not there?" But yeah I agree. I would think this would become apparent at some point to your fellow squadmates.

I really like Ace Combat 3 and it left a impact on me early on, played the JP release first; while I don't think its the best in the series, it does a lot right. Something that stands out to me is that it's the only *“Kitai” game I know of that incorporates elements of psychological horror. The whole fight with Dision in the electrosphere and the scene where he gets sublimed is honestly pretty creepy stuff. As for its quality since you didn't expect it, it’s somewhat typical of PS1 games from the pre-Y2K and Y2K era - they’re just good. Will you do a video on Ace Combat 2? It’s not as great as Electrosphere, but there’s something magical about it. The soundtrack and simplicity of the missions make it one of the most fun Ace Combat games, despite its age. It’s not as great as Zero or 3, but it’s purely fun. and it aboslutely left a impact in the series as the modern Ace Combat forumula came from this game and clones from the PS2 era directly copy Ace Combat 2’s formula down to the “Break Now” intro sequence as opposed to taking from the better ace combat games. On another note, a game series you should look into is Armored Core. If you haven’t tried it, you should. Ace Combat and Armored Core share a lot of mutual inspiration and even some of the same concept artists. like really, to me, Armored Core is like the Ace Combat of mechs. The controls on earlier games are a bit clunky, but they all support analog on buttons via emulator, which I think is the best way to play them. If you haven't touched that series at all you should. Master of Arena on the PS1 is a good one to start with. I also bring this up because there are huge similarities between the series' overall aesthetic and tone when compared to Ace Combat 3. *Also to clarify what I mean by “Kitai” (機体), it’s a Japanese term for media involving fighter Jets or Mecha as the centerpiece. It translates to “Airframe”. It's a bit fustrating they're treated more as split genres in the west when both are related, ig it has to do with the western perception that a Mecha is more of a MBT rather than that a walking Fighter plane.

The club owner actually pulled from under the table the Japanese release and said that here's the full game but it's in Japanese so nobody needs it and he gifted the game to me. UI-4053 Sphyrna 6.Well, shocking ending i guess. Finish all 5 routes and well you'll have Simon informed you that we're not real. 7.Database feature, strong world building 8.Most amount of female pilots (Fiona, Rena, Cynthia) 9.Complex Villain (Dision, Park, Nascimento) or almost no true Villain...except maybe Park 10. O.S.L Get A in all 52 missions and you'll get access to OLS.. all you need to do Is lock on target and it's gone. No maneuver, No Nonsense. 11. Unusual method to get X-49.. where you need a special CD which contain data named "DeadCopy" which will unlock X-49 for you. Tho.. it wont unlock OSL. A game that abbreviates to AC that involves mega corporations controlling the world that came out on the ps1… I can’t believe they made an ace combat and armored core crossover and nobody told me

so I played the International release having NO idea that there was a Japanese version that was completely different and frankly I am SUPER annoyed that there was a so much cooler version of this game out there. While I still enjoyed my time with 3. (specially the cool sci fi ships) I have to admit the story never gripped me and I enjoyed AC2 so much more in that regard. Will say though it was interesting to see the parallels between the international and the Japanese version. and how DIFFERENT the context and story was.

which emulator were you using? the image clarity on this looks so crip and clean and the ps1 jittering effect is so minimal.

I can't recommend you try out AC2 enough, because it really feels like a predecessor to the ps2 games down to control, level design, enemy ai and all. I really love 3 but at points it feels it little bit more style over substance, like the game looks and sounds better than how the actual gameplay is.

My coverage of 7 will be up soon, than I plan on going back and playing 1, 2, and some of the other titles. I've seen a little of 2 and I was very impressed with what I saw, looks fantastic.

Honestly, I'm not a big fan of this type of reviews/commentary. Because you spend 70% of the video retelling the entire game story in a shorter version but still spoiling every big and emotional moments. Wich is useless for those who played it and a major spoiler for those who did not. And kind of lazy to, cause 70% of your work is just a resume of the game story. The true commentary and analysis is only 10 min maybe at maximum. I would rather listen to a deeper analysis of gameplay cool mission, the story and themes, you emotion etc etc. So i would advise for a deeper analysis or a shorter video.

Thank you for the honest feedback. I 100% agree with your points and conclusion. As a matter of fact the AC6 video I have coming out is going to be much shorter and to the point, touching on the story, but not spoiling it.

@@JarboeGaming also I realize that calling "lazy" is harsh and not true, it must have taken a huge amont of time and efforts to write and record. So sorry. I think you'r time is better used now 😀 Gaming is an art forme and ad such it is all about the player feelings and emotions with gameplay, graphism, story, music, UI, menu, presentation etc. I think a good a good game is able to keep that fact in mind and choose every element to convey the emotion it seeks to make the player feels. Btw the music is a key element

@@nicolasillarnizzi Appreciate the kind words! Music is definitely key, it's something that was missing fron a lot of my earlier content, but over the past couple of videos I think I've started to dial it in. ESPECIALLY with AC7, that game's soundtrack was so good I felt it a sin to not show it off.

This game bugs me. Gameplay is fine i just dislike the narrative compared to the other games, and i wish it wasn't canon.

I definitely struggled with the pronounciation, maybe im just a big fan of the mustard LOL Regarding AC8, I really have no idea the direction they'll go, we very well may get something that returns to an earlier time period in the series. Don't think we'll get it for at least a couple more years though.

Nie lubię AC3. To antyteza Ace Combat. A ta seria to power fantasy o ludzkim pilocie w prawdziwym, licencjonowanym samolocie, nie o ai w latającym sf-śmieciu. Mam nadzieję że ta gra jest zdekanonizowana. Albo chociaż istnieje ostatnia ścieszka, prawdziwa wojna, gdy to prawdziwy człowiek w samolocie rozkwasza nemo na miazgę.
