I haven’t used Qor because it doesn’t play well with others. You can save your paper by using Daniel Smith watercolor ground and let it rest at least 24hrs.

well , I live in the other end of the world and I ordered ten tubes of m graham watercolors from amazon through a company (with no return policy ) , four of these tubes have the same problem as yours and their smell were awful . I read many reviews about that on amazon and someone faced the same problem and suggested using distilled water or even bottled water instead of tap water and I followed the advice there was a huge improvement of reducing that weird texture. I hope that was helpful.
@SarahBaileyArts3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the suggestion, I've also heard about that issue with M Graham! I don't personally have that problem with M Graham where I live but I'm glad that the distilled water can help! Unfortunately it doesn't help in the case of this paint but I do believe you're on the right track - there's not enough binder (or they put in too much pigment for the normal recipe) so the pigment particles clump together instead of dispersing normally. I do think adding binder and re-mulling the batch would fix the issue but I don't have the patience, or the supplies, to do that 😅

You are definitely right .professional are supplies must help to boost our creativity and not to turn us into problem solvers.

You had the same experience as Dr. Oto Kano, who discussed this on her very recent swatching video of four QoR reds. QoR responded and resolved it for her. I got a tube of this in my first QoR palette (the 24 set), but it was a different batch number than hers and was fine. I’ve since radically increased the number of QoRs I have - am totally in love with the crazy gorgeous flow.

Hi Harbour. Would you mind doing a follow up comment since it's been a year since you last commented? Are you having any more of these issues.? I have noticed that my qor paints just don't work the way that they once did. I got the 24 set about 6 years ago. along with tubes about 3 years ago. When I put paint to paper the aquazole binder is pushing absolutely everything away even the water is separating from the pigment and soaks right into the paper. I feel like I'm painting on notebook paper. If I didn't have any other brand of watercolors I would think that my paper sizing has went bad. But that just isn't the case because I've done many tests lately to see what was going on and the common denominator is definitely the aquasol binder. Also I am very aware of how qor paints are fast moving flowy paints. That is not what I'm experiencing. It seems as though the flow of these paints has become very destructive and ruined many of my paintings before I realized that it was the paint that was the problem. Anyone else discover this issue??

Since I live in such a dry climate I have never run into the paper issues. But the paint issues I have seen.

The paint may have been damaged due to freezing in transit or other temperature issues during transportation and storage. The binder (there is no gum arabic in QOR, there is Aquazol @ binder) could change its consistency and properties. It is not known who and where violated the technology. Was the defective product already at the factory or was it formed as a result of delivery to the warehouse to the seller? Or maybe the seller did not comply with the storage conditions?
@SarahBaileyArts3 жыл бұрын
Actually there are other people who have had this same problem with this batch. It wasn't a transport or storage issue, but a batch issue. Edited to add: Those folks have ordered from companies across the world and all had problems with the same batch - sorry that wasn't clear in the first part of my response :)
@Dan.B.Artist3 жыл бұрын
its a shame this happened has QOR arent cheap even for you in the US. By the looks of it there isn't enough paint binder added. And it may not have been mulled enough either.
@SarahBaileyArts3 жыл бұрын
Yep, that's the general consensus, I agree. QoR was notified of the issue and did an internal investigation, no idea what came of that but I did what I could. Financially I came out ok but I know some people who had to send back their bad tubes to the seller on their own dime, it's rotten.

This video is a year old but I hope that you will still get back to me. I have recently been noticing a problem with my core paints. Most of the paint I'm talking about now came from the 24th set that I bought many many years ago. I would say about 6 years ago. I've also tested it with the tubes that I have bought more recently. The aquasol binder I believe is the problem. I have noticed that my paint will see into the paper and dry extremely quickly compared to my other paints. If I didn't Swatch other paints on the paper right next to my qor swatches I would say that it was the sizing of the paper that was the problem. But this is not true. It is the paint itself that is causing the problem. I am distraught over this because I have always been a lover of qor. For its vibrancy and it's flow. But it seems as though the flow caused by the binder is the problem. Has anyone else had this problem? Does anyone know where I can find help for this?
@SarahBaileyArts2 жыл бұрын
I have found QoR customer service to be pretty responsive. You might want to start with them. I don't have any paints that old to test for you unfortunately. I hope you get it figured out!

@@SarahBaileyArts thank u for such a hasty reply. I'm just broken hearted over these paints. I adore them but they are ruining my paintings with such unpredictable behavior. The best way I can explain it is they seem to be pushing everything including water away from where they are placed. Then they end up drying immediately because it seems as though the aquasol is ruining the sizing of the paper. They just seep right through the paper like it has no sizing on it whatsoever. This is happening on all of my papers. Student grade and professional arches. also for anyone reading this I am aware that qor is known for their pushing qualities but I've been working with these paints for 6 years now and the pushing that they are doing now is almost destructive. They ruin the paper. If I try to go over top of where I place them the paper will start peeling immediately. What's going on!? I'm worried about contacting qor because I don't have any of the receipts for my purchases since it's been some time since I purchased my last tube from them. I'm going to do some more tests on them. The ones that are unpredictable I have dried in pans. Tonight I will pull out my tubes and see if they do the same thing. Maybe qor paints have an expiration date when they are hardened into pans? I would like to keep you updated if you don't mind. I don't have anyone else that would be interested in my testing of the paint. Maybe it will help someone else? Again thank you for such a quick response. And thank you for sharing everything that you do. I love this community.
@SarahBaileyArts2 жыл бұрын
@@britbrat4559 sure, no problem, I hope you get it figured out! But you don't need receipts to contact QoR, they'll ask you for the batch number on the tubes, and photos of the behavior, and you'll go from there. I still think you should contact them, the worst thing that can happen is they say they can't help you and you're no worse off than you are right now.
