18:25 that iconic line was delivered by none other than Rob Reiner's own mother! He always jokes that he gave the best movie line of the 80's and arguably all of pop culture, to his Mom!

This movie is very much the story of me and my wife. Met as college students in the late 1970s, lived next door to each other, became friends. Even after we graduated we stayed friends, she hooked me up with her roommate, I hooked her up with mine. We both moved multiple times, stayed in touch. By 1989 I was splitting with my girlfriend, she was splitting from her husband. We went on a trip together, as friends, stayed in separate hotel rooms. By the end of that trip we had grown much closer together. Months later I proposed, by the end of 1990 we were married. We've been married ever since. It really is the best thing when you get to marry your best friend!

"I'll have what she's having." Fun Fact: Joe is played by Steven Ford, the son of 38th U.S. President Gerald Ford. Hot Take Fact: The scene where we see all four lead characters talking to each other individually on various telephones took sixty takes to nail. Location Location Fact: The orgasm scene was filmed at Katz's Deli, an actual restaurant on New York's E. Houston Street. The table at which the scene was filmed now has a "Where Harry Met Sally ...Hope You Have What She Had!" plaque. That's Hot Fact: For the infamous fake orgasm scene, the original script called for Harry and Sally to merely talk about women faking an orgasm, until Meg Ryan suggested that Sally actually fake an orgasm at the table. Director Rob Reiner loved the idea and put it into the script. In a November 2, 2004 interview with NPR, writer Nora Ephron credited Meg Ryan not only with the idea of faking an orgasm in the famous restaurant scene, but also with the idea of setting it in a restaurant in the first place.

7:45 And they *are* real life commentaries. They are indeed actors portraying them but their words are real stories. 15:20 Has anyone mentioned that Billy was improvising the whole 'pecan pie' conversation. Meg genuinely started to laugh and turns to Rob Reiner expecting him to call a cut but he was loving it and gestured to Meg to keep it going. Genius directing, genius acting and a genius film. 28:08 Brilliant scene and was filmed as you see it. Billy & Meg were on two different sound stages with Carrie and Bruno on a third but they all held their conversations "live" to keep the natural rhythm. 32:18 Originally they didn't plan to have a happy ending. Rob Reiner said a lot of himself went into Harry and he'd personally been single for a decade and he was very cynical about love as a result. But during filming he was introduced to a woman called Michelle who he fell head over heels for and as a result he believed in romance again so they changed the ending. Rob married her in 1989, the year the film was released and they've been together ever since.

A classic Rom-Com you have to watch is "The Goodbye Girl"(1977). A huge massive hit in theatre the Christmas of 1977. Richard Dreyfuss won the Oscar for best actor. I think He is the only one to win an Oscar as a lead in a Rom-Com. The title song was also a hit hit and now a Classic.

Thanks to Robert and Vanessa! 💞 How timely since I watched Billy Crystal receive a Kennedy Center Honor last night?! (I love how, IIRC, Carl Reiner gave his mom the movie's best line!) Believe it or not, whenever I think of Carrie Fisher I think first of *this* movie!!!! Fun fact: the old people's stories are all true, delivered by actors. Ff 2: When "Harry talks in the funny accent, Billy Crystal made this on the spot, it was not scripted. Ff 3: The fake orgasm was also not scripted, and in the diner, there is a plaque where they sat. Also, Rob Reiner laughed so much he couldn't stay in the room during shooting that scene. Ff 4: The four phone conversation was shot in real time, so the couple was at one bed, and Billy and Meg were at distant corners of the room, the synch took a lot of takes.

There are a few iconic scenes from this movie but in my opinion the best aspect of this is the interviews sprinkled through the film. You really need to see Casablanca. There are several scenes in this where the characters are discussing it and several others where the scene plays out similarly to a scene in Casablanca. It's a film that has a great place in world history as well discussing significant events in the film within a very short time of them actually happening in the war. Another example is Throw Mama from the Train, which also stars Billy Crystal. It's a good movie on its own, but it specifically references Strangers on a Train, and indirectly nods to other Hitchcock movies. You can enjoy it without ever having seen any Hitchcock pictures, but it's better if you can catch the allusions.

IIRC, Billy’s character in Soap was the first out gay character in a network tv series. I remember when the show started that my Catholic priest actually told us in his homily not to watch the show for that very reason. I was just a preteen at the time and had no idea why he was so against the show.

35:28 my wife and I met on the job 30+ years ago. Initially we liked each other but then had some miscommunication so we didn’t talk for a year or so. Then one day I asked her out to lunch. We started hanging out as friends (I had a girlfriend) and would go places. Eventually I began to see that I liked her more than my girlfriend. So I broke up with my girlfriend and started dating my friend. I discovered later she had thought we were already dating. LOL. Once again due miscommunication we broke up and didn’t see one another for a year. After a couple of crappy relationships, I called her up to say I’m sorry. We started hanging out again and a year later we got married. Almost 29 years later we are still together. Sometimes love takes the long road.

This was back before personal in flight entertainment was a thing, and the diner scene cut to the next scene before Sally fakes having an orgasm.
