Very true, I have malamutes myself. They are friendly to people but other dogs, they get very defensive. (Although if a human comes near, drunk or high on something, one of the dogs will bark super deep and loud. We officially adopted them from their owners, our dogs had a mild case littermate syndrome. Didn’t help we lived near each other. It wasn’t the owners fault but the lack of care their family had, the owners were actually the parents of the “main” owner; they had a lack of interest and only showed any once they became our dog. Their parents thought it was best for them to live with us, instead of leaving the dog alone; besides their were other children (grandkids) that kept tormenting the poor pup, they weren’t taught by their own parents to not be mean. Also they get super jelly if we have other dogs, even their own siblings from either same litter or a different one)

For a Malamute that is a rather affectionate sort of noise. My family has had Malamutes for over 20 years. Malamutes are more like wolfs than other dogs. & are more pack oriented than most domestic dogs. They see the humans in their lives as fellow pack members/dogs. & all the male dogs we have have made that noise around my Dad & brother. Whenever they are between any of the women in the family & them. It's a male dominance thing. They will try to show that they are the 'top dog' & not the men in the family/pack. In the wild wolf's constantly try to renegotiate the pack pecking order. Daniel wasn't in any danger as long as he stood his ground. & firmly established tha he not & Phill was the more dominant 'dog'.

I've never seen or heard Phil in this way. Love the deep growl. Best of everything to your family, that includes four legged family ( i couldn't get myself to call them "pets" as they're more than that). ✌

Our Philly bear is a true protector of his family❤️❤️❤️...his growling shows he is so uncomfortable with Dan sitting so close to him and wanting him to lay down... I would certainly take his growling as a warning sign instead... if Emma is not there looking very relax, I bet Phil is ready anytime to attack 😰 Dan is so brave

Delta I agree with you. I'd be glad Emma was there. I think Dan is taking a risky chance. Phil has warned him

Dan is very silly putting his face so close to a dog growling at him! He's letting you know he's not happy and yet you keep pushing it,this is the reason people get bit and it's always the poor dog who suffers!! This is a stupid video!

Phil's doing his job and protecting Mom and home. ❤ Was Shane home while Daniel was there? If not, does Phil act differently when Shane is home?

I think Dan made Phil uneasy because he has the tendency to stare him in the eyes, which is a challenge to a dog if he isn't sure yet what to think of you. As he started talking more to Emma and looking less at Phil directly, Phil seemed to get more comfortable. It's also important that Dan was relaxed. When Derek interacts with Phil he is always very tense, and Phil remains tense in response.

@@audreybrooke7985 I saw that one, Dan was getting much more in Phil's face there, not respecting his boundaries. He does a lot better here.

Having been with malamutes for two years when they growl like that it’s going to mean start running and run quickly… I’d be surprised if Ted learns the Phil growl where niko would keep both gentlemen in check
