I absolutely LOVE when you can essentially "chunk" a spell to get different outcomes. Skyrim did this too in-game with it's shouts. Sure, most would just be weaker, but thr cooldowns were shorter, so they'd be more spammable. But the best case of this was Soul Rend(my personal fav lol). It's first 2 parts are the same and last has a deadly bolt that can reanimate whatever it kills, but it's first 2 are an "unpowered" bolt, but it's got the same stager as Fus, but with a comically short cooldown, so you can stun lock any single enemy lmao. It was one of my favorite things to do when/if I unlocked the ability to shout in general(I was one of _those_ guys... 😅)

To be honest that's not entirely a new trope for magic casting. The full power of any spell being limited to a full casting of it's name has actually been something seen as far back as the stories of Merlin the Magician, but they usually just had the spell fail if it wasn't casted correctly. Now it's a more common thought that magic is something that can be manipulated by the caster. This series is really only saying that a partial chant gives partial power which in and of itself is nothing new, however the idea that dropping certain parts of the chant changes aspects of it is a trope rarely seen. So props to this series making magic more thought provoking again.
