As you read Tennyson's writing of the Christmas bells "answering" each other, I was reminded of the passage in Isaiah, where he says the Cherubim cried "ONE TO ANOTHER and said, 'Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God of Hosts.' " (my emphasis)

Loss a dear member of the church I pastor to covid’s deathly prowl on Saturday night and had to preach in the morning. I recently shared the first part of this poem with another member whose far from family and has a difficult time during the Christmas season. Now I sit with Tennyson as patient instead of physician. Yes, I wish George could be with us on these videos but in the new house my study is upstairs and we always keep upstairs out of bounds to the dogs -it would be confusing for him if we was allowed in one room and not the others - but hence the barking!

Thank you for reading Tennyson- he is one of my favourites. I followed along in my leatherbound volume which was passed on to me by my aunt and uncle. That passage is especially meaningful to me this year after the death of my mother in June and my father-in-law in March. I have read many of your poems and essays to my two daughters (ages 20 and 28), and they both requested your books for Christmas. One will receive The Singing Bowl and Sounding the Seasons and the other will receive Parable and Paradox, and David's Crown. I am delighted that they both enjoy your work. (My husband favours smoky, peaty whiskies as well. Laphroaig is at the top of his list.) Happy Christmas to you and yours and many wishes for a bright and flourishing New Year!
