When I joined my first big company, everyone told me how every year or two, the company flew everyone to Vegas for a meeting. That never happened after I got there. Instead they booked a hotel on the ouuutskirts of the city to give us a presentation whining about how everyone is quitting to go to the competitor who pays more and that's not fair. ... Then we got a meal at a golf course. The next time they scrapped the hotel, whined about everyone quitting in our training room, and we got dinner out in a nice restaurant downtown, where our HR director got drunk and kept asking us about how people get marijuana cards in California, which was the most obvious trap I've ever actually seen first hand. The year I left they ordered Dominoes and sodas that we ate in the training room, and they said we could take the extra sodas home. I went to work for the company they had been whining about stealing all of our employees all those years.

I used to deliver furniture for a pretty big company a few years back. Most of us were full time employees, but there were a few contractors who would load up in the same DC with the rest of us. They were there every week just like us, and all around pretty good guys. When we had our Christmas party they took and fed us a big spread of bbq and sides with desert and honestly it was pretty good. But not the contractors. They had to leave the warehouse and got the door locked behind them. Always thought that was messed up. They had a driver appreciation week where the sales team fed us and thanked us for being the backbone of the company and all that bullshit. I even got an email from one of those sales people to personally thank me for all that I did, which I thought was pretty nice. Right up until I got the exact same, word for word, email from a different sales person later that week. Feels good to be appreciated lol.

I work in maintenance and admin would regularly have things like that, HQ would regularly have meetings and events, let catered food sit out for hours, then hand it to the guys busting their asses after someone thought to do something with it. It usually got ate too because everyone was starving making minimum wage and regularly eating far less than the thousands of calories burned at work. I'm certain not one of us hasn't gotten food poisoning. And no one wants to say anything because getting scraps is basically one of the few perks we enjoy. Idk it's ceremony and pomp for everyone except the people who keep the lights on. I swear looking good is the only job of higher ups. The people that send their emails, tbf, also work hard and also are expected to look good. And they don't even get to crowd around a broken picnic table and shovel questionable food into their mouths during a short break like a pack of hyenas.

No way in Hell was I going to clock out, drive 30 minutes home, work out for a half hour, drive almost another half hour to Kansas City..drive around downtown looking for a place to park,,pay 6 maybe 7 dollars for parking,,sit there and eat and pretend to be enjoying myself for who knows how long..drive back home and than have maybe 90 mnutes before I have to go to bed. My maintenance supervisor said he didn't want to go either. But since it was his first year as supervisor,Ihe thought he should probably attend. He also said he would pretend to be happy to meet some of the corporate employees from higher up,but his true feelings were "f^ck y'all".

He got a call from the admins asking why he charged 500 at a steakhouse. Told them it was a mechanics meeting and got chewed out and they sent our area operations manager down and area maintenance manager down. Maintenance manager was glad he did it and on his side. Operations manager wanted him fired and was screaming so loud about him being fired we all wrote up our resignation letters. Knocked on the door and handed him all of them.
