There's no documentation in Japanese or neutral sources that Yamamoto ever made the "sleeping giant" comment (and naturally there wouldn't have been any Americans around to hear him say it). All the attributions to Yamamoto are post-war and hearsay two or more times removed. See "Pearl -- December 7, 1941" by Daniel Allen Butler (Casemate, 2021) pp 29 and 273....

Well done. I'm old school, would have rather actually read this in a compilation of short stories. Yes, people still read actual books. Reminds me of the style of Saberhagen. Maybe you'd cover his first novel of the Berserker books, a fantastic series of short stories, would be a great tribute to an underrated sci fi author.
