@estherdimaggio91562 ай бұрын
This likely costs more than takeout. We have a $10 Chinese-style takeout deal where I live - entree, fried rice, egg roll, and it feeds you for two meals. If I bought this at a store, the tenderloins would be $7-10/pack for about 6, the salad kit is $5, and the eggs would be $1.50. Even though I already have the other ingredients, some would have to buy the gochugaru pepper for $3+ and breadcrumbs for $3. I won't factor in the butter and honey. So that's $13.50 on the low end, $22.50 on the high end. And this is me in a smaller southern community - can't imagine what it's like in the West and NE. Making food at home is now just as expensive, if not more, than takeout nowadays, plus it takes more time. It's a damn shame, because I like transparency in using my own ingredients.
@InsertSlogan62 ай бұрын
@@estherdimaggio9156 For majority of people, takeout is a lot more expensive than cooking at home, especially in the long run. But it depends on 1) where you live, 2) what you're trying to cook vs. what you're trying to order for takeout, and 3) where you shop. If you're buying all new ingredients then yes, the initial cost will be more expensive than takeout. However, the ingredients you're buying would make multiple meals. And if you shop correctly, it'd last you the entire week. Some of it will last you months, depending on what meals you're making, whereas takeout would last 1-2 days.
@shellylee24432 ай бұрын
@@estherdimaggio9156 Where I live something like that would cost me around $15. And I'll be lucky to get 2 servings out of it. I used to eat out a lot... With what I pay on one meal takeout. I can turn into 2-3 meals at home. I do a lot of my shopping picking and choosing where I can get the most for my money. I was spending anywhere between $3-10 more on takeout than it costs for me to eat at home

That is strange and something I've noticed too. I'll be cooking, I'll be hungry, then when the food is done I won't be hungry or am satisfied after a couple bites. Does the food's essence osmosis into you during the process? Perhaps it's a psychological thing where seeing, smelling and even handling the food long enough convinces the body that you have probably eaten already so it turns off the hungries. Or maybe on some level we don't want to destroy what we have created.

I don’t like cooking, though I cook well when I do, and I know that my food is 100 times better than any take out (except for some cultural foods that I don’t know how to cook simply due to skill and technique say Chinese food). My problem is that I go to the store (or order delivery) craving one meal so I get the ingredients, then when I have the stuff on hand,5 days go by and I don’t feel like making that dish anymore💀ingredients go bad and I end up throwing them away 💀 this cycle repeats all the time. I use electric skillet, toaster convection oven, multi purpose pot that is rice cooker/slow cooker/cake maker to name a few things, waffle/sandwich maker, Foreman Grill, going to get a 2 or 3 qt slow cooker for when making food small enough to not need my bigger pot, and going to get electric griddle if I can as well. @@adamwelch4336 don’t usually keep panco breadcrumbs, chilli peppers, and honey around - and the type of chicken I have varies. My point is more that people order takeout because it’s easier than cooking, not because they think it’s going to be better than what they can cook at home, and by the time I’m running to the store for anything, we might as well be running to get takeout. Prep time is another factor. This recipe legitimately takes around 2 hours from the time you decide to start making it to completion. You don’t just get home from work at like 6pm, crave takeout, and then go “oh instead let me spend 2 hours cooking so I can have something slightly better at 8pm and with more work.” This is why when eating at home a lot of people stick basic, pre-prepped, same-y meals.
