Prolly zero. I've never seen another human within miles. The closest we get is when we have our gear on in a parking lot and people will ask what we are doing and we say we are going caving. They are always surprised to hear that there are caves in the area. But, there are caves in every area.

I don't know specifically if you were walking over caves but remember the Earth is made of lava so there his old lot of caves underground. Almost everything we walk over is a cave somewhere.

You can clearly tell Jacob isn't there and is it just me or is covering up an entrance to a cave with moss just asking for a broken leg? While I get your trying to preserve the caves from ppl that destroy them and I get the chances of someone walking thru the woods in that specific spot are slim, if you cover up enough cave entrances which I'm sure you do it's only a matter of time before a person, deer or other animal gets hurt. And I know I'll get someone thinking that I'm being overly paranoid, to you I have to say tell that to the person that eventually breaks their leg

Yes it's very hard to find caves without a pretty good working knowledge of the geology you are in and how caves are formed. I don't know if lidar is available but it's... handy to look over an area.

@@EvenDarker Appreciate it. I do know some of the geology and have looked into how they're formed. Not that I'm a pro lol. I saw there is a grotto in Sacramento, so might have to try there. There are a few commercial caves up the hill we've been to, mostly in the mother lode foothills. Anyways, love the videos man. Appreciate what you do to show us some awesome caves. Have a good one.

Truth. Uncomfortable at best and worse if inhaled breath expands the chest too far. Volcanic tubes often have surfaces that seem designed to snag human attire choices. I also have my reasons if alone in caves with no immediate assistance on-call.

Curious - are some squeezes more difficult on the way in than on the way out and vice versa or do they tend to be relatively even both ways?

Yes, both. It's always easier in one direction but in general it's about the same. If you can get through one way you can always get through the other but one direction is always tougher. Whether it's the slant of the rocks or the slope of the passage. In very rare cases it's easy to slip through one direction and very difficult to go the other. But you can usually see that when you're in the passage and you just have to keep an eye out for it. It's like a fly trap. Where the rocks are like a funnel and you'll slip through one direction but can't get back the other. But we usually carry tools to remedy those situations.

Sometimes hunters and hikers just disappear down holes like that earlier one, never to be seen again. They just slip and dissappear off the face of the earth. Poof! There's a story of one guy who this happened to and his hunting friends heard a muffled shot from his rifle, and he was never seen again. They never found him. A swampy forest full of sink holes. His rifle went off after he'd "gone under" - tragic. There's a good argument that for anyone traversing forests with these kinds of caves, anyone hiking them, should have some idea of what caving entails, but I'm not sure it would help. There's a special, ethereal, and genuinely magical aura around these places. Something numinous and hard to put into words. Remote. Untouched. It's really what we seek! I can see the passion that exploring these places brings. It's not for all of us, but it's also totally irresistible to certain kinds of people. I'm that kind of person, even though I wouldn't ever do caving. But other people have the same kind of thoughts about free climbing, which is something I *have* done dozens of times myself, and I personally find it almost impossible to NOT explore free climbing. Now that I'm older I have to actively avoid it. I have to force myself to NOT do it because the danger compared to my ability, the ratio, gets worse with age. So I get these videos totally!! I absolutely feel the passion you have for it, even though it's something I'd never do myself. It's not fear, it's something else, something more rational. I'd not like for it to go wrong whereas free climbing seems like it wouldn't go wrong in the same way for me personally. It's impossible to even put into words. I actually like and enjoy fear like this, just not this particular fear. Stay safe my friend. I'm guessing you take the correct precautions 😉 God willing you'll be never need the luck I wish for you. Saying that I've been done a few caves. The blue john mines in the UK. Long tunnels half filled with water. They terrified and fascinated me! But the stuff you do? It's possible here. Animals fall in these holes all the time. And there are lots of hunters out here but most of them... don't fall in the caves. But it's possible!

When going alone do you give coordinates of your location to others just incase you get stuck and would you suggest not going alone to others that are watching? Also is there any chance of someone falling in a dig hole and breaking a leg that you cover so well with moss or are you in areas that are not traveled by anyone else?
