VIDEO CREDITS
Thank you so so much to super Kevin for writing the spanish subtitles! We loooove you Keviin!
All my music is from Epidemic Sound
Camera
all videos filmed until December 2019 were filmed with a Canon EOS m with a 22mm lens (REALLY recommend if you're starting out, although it doesn't have a manual focus mode, it's cheap and the quality is great)
Now I'm using a Canon EOS M6 mark II with a 22mm lens
I use DaVinci Resolve for editing!
Things you don't know about this video: apparently, saving a plant that has been peed by a cat (for months), it's harder to bring back to life than I thought. I finished the chonky book you saw me reading and it's creepy af. I didn't like the ending but it was an interesting ride, and it's also my first time reading a horror book!
Oh I almost forgot! I completed the puzzle! I'm so proooud hahah it's my first ever puzzle and now I wanna do another one? I never imagined working on a puzzle was going to be so relaxing and meditative.

Hi Fran about plants happy to hear you are an Excellent plant mom. My plants are growing highly in my house. People always comment especially when they visit after months inbetween. With new plants? I say No those tiny leaves I repot and growth seems instant. Wow they are amazed and I end saying they must love me and my company and life I keep... nature does not lie?

Six minutes in and how is this so comforting! Sometimes when I am removing nail-varnish, taking inventory of the fridge, cleaning laundry twice because it didn't dry and smells mildewy, I get filled with despair that no one else ever does these things, they just live lives that are seamless and bloggable and exciting or relaxing and never frustrating. Thank you for this! I needed a reminder that everyone in the world has to wash their laundry twice sometimes.

Ugh Fran 💖All those everyday task shots are so damn nice. Loved the food smelling scene lol. The part of working on a bigger project like a graphic novel, comic or book and feeling anxious, because you wanna finish it right away, hit me. I'm currently taking time off after two years (!) of working everyday. I started my zine some weeks ago and pressured myself to get it done quickly even tho I always "preach" how important it is to take a break and that it's a significant part of the creative process. So, I've finished my brekkie and enjoyed every sec of this vlog big thank you Fran. 🌹

26:30 just be very careful that it doesn't have some kind of bug or else. might often be the reason someone gets rid of a plant. I'd keep it a bit further away from your other plants for a while 😉

I’ve seen so many vlogs where vloggers go over the top to babble about their life and what they are doing every single minute of my life, which is quite tiresome to watch, so it’s nice to watch/listen to a chill vlog! I love how Fran shows you bits and pieces of her life, without explaining too much about it. Sometimes saying nothing at all says a lot about the vlog’s mood and tone, and I love putting my earbuds in listening to this in the background while drawing or cleaning my room, like a podcast. Thanks for making me relax Fran! :)

This is so fun to see the routine...a routine. My partner and I have over 70 plants in our house, ranging from tall pomelo tree to lemon trees to avocado trees and coffee trees and so on. It's nice to see them thrive elsewhere. Also that jar you painted reminds me of a jar you would guess how many jelly beans are in it. A jelly jar. A great video. Thanks for sharing.

Fran! I had the same problem with wrist, back and shoulder pain while working on my tablet. I have found that an adjustable standing desk to be very helpful. Standing is good, I hunch less but also I can lower the desk to the perfect height for my elbow to get a good angle. When I used that my pain went away. I also used a little tablet stand to not be looking down so much all the time. Maybe your drafting table would also be helpful.

Congrats on the green card! It must have been nerve wrecking to deal with this. For the wrist and arm pain, as a fellow artist I had something similar, it was a knot in the middle of the back and it got solved by working on a DIY table easel (instead of just flat on the table - do I make sense?), as I have good posture, so my back is usually straight, but then I would pull my head too far over the table (do I even make sense here??) What I'm trying to get at is that it's very likely that your posture when working isn't great for your body, so maybe try to switch your posture to something else over a few days and see if it works. Or maybe just switch positions on the regular and don't always sit the same. Also yoga helps me a lot, as much for the mind (being an artist does take over your life) and body. Hope that helps a bit, pain is not fun.

What helps me the most with drawing pains are upper body exercises. Like, hanging from a pullups bar to strech, doing assisted pull ups, stuff like that. And just gently stretching my arms, fingers, shoulders, neck from time to time. OH and taking regular breaks helps me a lot - I use a pomodoro timer for that. I have compression sleeves for my elbows (my main problem area) as well - maybe something like that exists for wrists as well? :)

shoulder shrugs are my go to when i get shoulder and wrist pain from art making. i also raise my arms straight up and the relax them 10-20 while stretching, and this relieves shoulder pain a lot. as for getting the spine into alignment, laying flat on the floor for about 10 minutes goes a long ways. you can also put a pool noodle under your spine to massage your spine 👍💕

Hi Fran. Thanking you great video. About shoulder make a cover for your ideap out of fabric and inside for the protection cut light card box up. Two pieces and insert in fabric cover. I did this and its lighter to carry the ideap. ALSO lower the work surface desk. And lastly exercise sweep and mop over your floors over lightly just after waking up daily. Also once weekly you could put on plastic gloves and do a little hand laundry and pin it out on a drying line or clothes horse. Forgot you need to sit in the sun at least three days for an 1hour. You should see improvement it worked for me....Thanking you have a Successful Day...by for now Fran.

Fran, regarding ergonomics it will be better to avoid positions in which you have to direct your sight and stare down, if you could have an extra screen that would help you keep an eye level for you not to force your posture it could help. Also, not having an screen and working on the ipad will cause you to keep a lifted shoulders and hunch position. Take constant breaks and stretch. And by constant it could be for every 30 min to an hour take a 5 min break to stretch :)

Fran!!!! Congrats on the green card oh my goodness!! For shoulder pain it's probably a rotator cuff issue, or tennis shoulder, which is an inflammation that happens when you've done a bunch of repetitive motions. My favorite stretch for that is the doorframe stretch, where you place yourself as if you're heading out a door, press your drawing hand against the frame of the door, and then lean forward. It helps a lot! I also got a little stand for my ipad so that I could rest my elbow on the desk easier and straighten my back, definitely helped as well. Once again, congratulations on the green card!! you certainly deserve it

For the pain i heard that it comes from the shape of the apple pencil, i’ve seen some people buy a foam tube cut it to the right size so that it feels comfortable and put the pencil in it ? So when it needs to be charged you can slide it off ? It looks silly but i heard it worked so yeah ! :)

Congrats on the visa! As for the pain, other than your work setup and not working at a high angle where your arm is lifted up for a long time, make sure you take constant breaks stretch and avoid carrying heavy stuff on your prominent arm/hand. I've just recently been diagnosed with Arm Impingement and had to do 15 physiotherapy sessions. You need to strengthen your core and back muscles and make sure that your posture is upright and your shoulders are back.

Hi Fran, I recently started watching your vlog and I love it! It's interesting seeing how your life, art, style, hair colour etc develop over time :) I'm especially enjoying the peaceful colour scheme of your recent videos - lots of white, light blues and pinks. (If only I could pull off the pink hair as well as you do!) As you've moved cities a number of times, I'd be curious to watch a video on how to settle in to a new city/country, making new friends, establishing yourself as a freelancer in a new place. Just mentioning this in case it's something you'd be interested in making a video on. Love from Bristol, England 💟

Congratulations on the green card!!!! I loved this vlog so much! I'm really busy rn and this helped me relax and feel inspired, thank you✨🌱 My chiropractor recommended regularly getting up and moving/stretching for pain from working at a desk and I think that might help you, too! Regularly means to at least do it every hour, btw. Also, I'm not a professional and just speculating, but going by what I've learned from my own body, it's likely that the pain in your wrist comes from tension in your neck/back/shoulders. If you can, I'd definitely recommend consulting a chiropractor to find out the best position for you to sit and work in ❤

Not sure if you are laying the Ipad flat when you work but I've found that propping it up on an angle helps me with the strain(mostly neck) from working on it. I don't have a fancy stand or anything, I just roll up a pillow case(short side) into a tube shape and place it behind the ipad so its at like a 45 degree angle. Also if you have the old version of the apple pencil like me, I've found a silicon grip helps me keep my hand more relaxed. I would end up gripping it too hard when it was just the plastic body of the pencil, it was causing strain in my hand and wrist. If you don't have the paper texture screen cover it is a total lifesaver. You just may have to change your nibs out a little more frequently depending on how hard you press down when you draw but it's much more intuitive to me as far as the way it feels to draw on.
