To anyone wondering about Frankfurt: It's where the rich and poor seemingly clash the most. Frankfurt is Germany's "business city". It's where a lot of banks have their HQs and it's full of grey skyscrapers. At the same time, Frankfurt's main train station is exactly where all the drug addicts and brothels gather, so a lot of people get a very bad first impression of the city when travelling there. It's kind of dystopic. (I live near Frankfurt myself and this is how it felt to me.)

I live in Wellington, and I can't remember the last time I saw an umbrella. That and it's genuinely off-putting when you can't hear the wind.

@@expatexpat6531 Isn't those skyscrapers in downtown?
@expatexpat653110 ай бұрын
@@NortOfficial I suppose downtown for me starts at the Hauptwache. The Bahnhofsviertel/red light area extends up to the end of the Kaiserstrasse and into the side streets. If you're only passing through Frankfurt, you're likely to step out into the Bahnhofsviertel and be confronted with the darker side of life, but there are plenty of other parts of Frankfurt which are really nice (e.g. Bockenheim, Bornheim). I would say that the Bahnhofsviertel is actually safer than say Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester.
@qwertyuiopzxcvbnm989010 ай бұрын
@@expatexpat6531downtown indeed is to the east of the skyscrapers of the banking district. Hauptwache is definitely part of downtown. In between the skyscrapers there's also a beautiful green area called Taunusanlage. If you go to the train station from there you will go through a sketchy area close to some skyscrapers but they are only a few skyscrapers of all those in the city
