I remember that, and Horan had to be rescued by the cops from a very angry crowd. Everyone knew de Lima had the race won, and thought he showed class not only getting up and finishing, but getting a Bronze out of it. The Pierre de Coubertin Medal was very much deserved

@@arthuralford Pierre de Coubertin medal is awarded for "Institutions with a pedagogical and educational role and to people who, through their research and the creation of intellectual works in the spirit of Pierre de Coubertin, contribute to the promotion of Olympism." Like, yeah he definitely deserved a reward for being such a good sport about it, but I don't think this quite fits that description. But what do I know, he did get the reward so maybe that description is just a gudeline and showing exceptional sportsmanship does qualify.

Whenever someone's out on a live track when they shouldn't be, my mind immediately locks on the fate of Tom Pryce and Frederick Jansen Van Vuuren. One of the most horrific moments I've seen in motorsport.

@RECEPTOR17

@@y_fam_goeglyd That also crosses my mind too. The fact that they could only identify Van Vuuren's remains was due to him not being present at a Marshall headcount at the end of the race. His Fire Extinguisher was found embedded in a car out in the car park beyond track limits too. And Tom Pryce hits close to home for me as he's the only Welsh driver that has graced the sport.

My parents and were at that race as teenagers, and my grandfather was there as well hosting a corporate party for the shipping company he worked for. My dad always talked about the terrible, unsettling calm, the number of people swarming around the pits, the police at Kyalami creating a 100-meter perimeter at the area around Crowthorne and the sight of an emotionally distraught Jacques Laffite who was sitting there crying and mumbling to himself in French. Apparently the marshals only found out it was Frederick when they called all of them together and Frederick didn’t show up.
@Skauldrich

Yep, that was my same initial thought. Kyalami had its fair share of live track intruders. The first dude at least had a legitimate reason to protest. I didn't realise that he actually got compensation from Merc after the event.

Woah woah woah! Fisi was not to blame for the first corner of Hockenheim 2000. Schumacher moved across so much he left Fisi nowhere to go. Onboard camera from the Benetton and Brundles commentary all placed the blame on Michael there.

There was a track invasion at the MotoGP race at Jerez in 1996, the crowd ran onto the track on the last lap while the leaders were still battling for the win!

As a Brazilian one of my favorite stories of idiots invading the track happened at the 1988 Brazilian GP, at the time there was a guy called beijoqueiro (kisser) who, in the 80's started invading all kinds of concerts and events kissing celebrities, he even kissed frank sinatra once haha, some say he got punched and went mental but he says he is sane. That day was no different, the kisser wanted to kiss Senna but the fact is that in that exact Brazilian GP Senna had a problem with the car and had to start the race from the pits so when the kisser invaded the track he actually kissed Prost instead of Senna. Sorry for the mistakes, not my first language :)

Judging by the video title, I expect this to be a Ferrari post 2007 documentary, primarily featuring Carlost Sainz and Mattia Binotto.

Anyone who track invades should be shown the Tom Pryce video and given the report of the events that unfolded. I'm sure someone can do the maths to figure out the forces involved of being hit by an F1 car at speed.
