Considering that Mazepin ended this season in 21st place on a 20 drivers grid by losing against someone who only drove 2 races (Kubica) in an only slightly better car, I think there's a fair argument to be made here for him to be on this list by now, even if he was in the worst car this season.

I always thought it was introduced because of Forti, who were so slow in '95 that they would only have made the 107% time once all season. Your point still stands, though. Forti were awful.
@Myrvold
@Myrvold 4 жыл бұрын
@@F1Krazy Forti and Simtek had the same fate. First year with old design, but money. Second year, new car, promising design but no money and pulling out. The 94 Simtek was quite similar to the S921 that Andrea Moda used, which was an unbuilt BMW design that Simtek did for BMW. (Which goes to show what that car could've done in 92, if run by a team slightly competent). Regardless it was a dated design that Simtek entered F1 with. Forti's 95 car was pretty much a slight evolution of the 92 Fondmetal, a car that was a backmarker back then. Also the last F1 car to feature a traditional manual gearbox with a stick-shifter. The FG03, even though it DNQ'd in two races, were said to be a solid upgrade. But by the time it arrived, the team was virtually bankrupt and the cars were never tested, just showed up at races, still, Luca Badoer managed to outqualify a certain Ricardo Rosset once. Oh well. What could've been :)

It's from the medical check after the crash. IIRC, he had to do something like cough while the doc grabbed his balls. They moved when he coughed (or whatever it was he had to do) which apparently indicated that the nerves were working. Josh Revell has a brilliant video on him that includes the full story. I think Aidan Millward has one too (he did one, but YT fecked with his channel 🤦🏻‍♀️). Both worth a watch.

Introducing Ottorino Volonterio. Lapped 6 times in the 1956 German GP. That's 85 miles behind the winner Fangio at the Nurburgring in a 22 lap race. (And no his car was fine, he stopped once for a drink) He really makes Lord Mahaveer look like Fangio, Senna, Schumacher & Hamilton put together. And if you're wondering!! He qualified 4:20.9 behind pole man Fangio. That's 145% slower.

In an interview with Top Gear he said (about one of his accidants): "My helmet was totally squashed. Then I see the doctor. Usual precedure - they try to see my dick first, touching my balls." A long swig of beer "It´s true! I learn that in UK. When balls move, brain is fine. When big crash, scissors, take off the overalls, see the balls, hit the balls, then when balls move, this guy´s fine. If balls don´t move then there´s a problem with brain damage, i think." 3:12 Inoue is referring to the Cremasteric reflex. The testicles can be lifted up as a reflex when the inside of the thigh is stroked. The relevant anatomy is that the reflex uses nerves from the upper lumbar spinal cord (L1, L2), but also that the sensation has to travel to the brain and back. It is not often used by doctors though, as there are better reflexes to test for.
@alam1629

Just because they’re racing in F1 doesn’t mean they belong there. I’m not saying that driving an F1 car is easy but 99% of the people don’t have the money to train for driving an F1 car. If everyone did, do you think these drivers would still be better than 99.9% of the people? Anyone can afford to kick or dribble a ball, so I’ll give props to professional football and basketball players, but until motor sports becomes more accessible to the masses, don’t tell me that those participants are “better” than anyone. They’re just more privileged to get the opportunity.

I remember watching Dave Walker in Formula Ford and Formula 3. He was brilliant. He won 25 out of 32 races in Formula 3 in 1971 including the (win this and you really are good) race in Monaco. I think it was down to Chapman giving him a rubbish Grand Prix car because he definitely had the ability in my opinion.
@waynemanna1402
@waynemanna1402 2 жыл бұрын
I agree. He was very good in UK Formula Ford and in F3 he easily had the wood on James Hunt. Hunt was very, very complimentary about Walker in his biography - he was mystified that a guy who was not just good, but dominant in F3, came across as hopeless in F1. I don't think it is fair, or very knowledgeable, to include Walker with a bunch of drivers who were totally out of their depth in F1. I also think Lance Stroll is, whilst not top drawer, still reasonable and on his day can do a good job. Yes, it's "Dad's money" that got him into F1, but he is a consistently respectable qualifier - unlike Mazepin.

Alex Yoong was driving for Minardi and missed out several qualifications due to failing to meet the 107% threshold. He eventually got suspended for two races, not by the FIA but by his own team boss Paul Stoddard, for being too slow compared to his teammate. A couple of years later he actually performed pretty well at the then newly created A1GP Series, even winning a race if I remember correctly.

A big country like China only now has their 1st rep in Zhou. It was hard being the pioneer, F1 is very expensive sport. Alex Yoong had more success in A1 though, with a Malaysian team. Personally, I remember Alex better when he helped train his younger sister Aaliyah in water ski sport.

If I'm not wrong, Ricardo Rosset once said he was a victim of the team, who "sabotaged" him. They would not setup the car properly and mess with the tyre pressure. I don't know if it's true, but maybe we wasn't so bad as it seems.

Long time ago now, but I remember seeing Roberto Moreno beat Alan Jones and Alain Prost at Calder Raceway outside Melbourne, in what was then the Australian Grand Prix, somewhere around 1982. They were driving Ralt RT-4 cars if I remember rightly. Good race and Moreno more than held his own that day, impressed me!

The reason they couldn’t overtake him is he was to fast. Check out h8s results in the 7up Jordon. Pole position at Long Beach, which he led for half the race. Should have won at Belgium but the car let him down with a few laps left. Should have won at Monaco but ran out of petrol with a couple of laps left. Stood on the podium a number of times. Loved watching him in all the teams he drove for..which were many. I admit he had backing behind him but he was still a fast driver...sadly killed in a motorcycle crash...I will miss drivers like this in today’s boring f1.
