hello! am a HR here. just wanna say that the MOM Employment Act (EA) doesnt cover everyone so you cant fall back to the EA but rather your contract but that being said the EA still forms the basis for fair workplaces but you still can go to TAFEP if you feel that you are being mistreated/short changed by your company

Same thing! My ex-boss called us a 'family' and said he felt betrayed when people left the company. Took me a while to realise he was gaslighting us.

I mean, yeah duh. Every boss wants to find a team that clicks, and when they do, they want to keep it that way. What's your big revelation here, exactly? 😂

calling family is not a red flag or sign. A management that is unwilling to listen to your feedback (that’s constructive to the company ) and work on it then it is a red flag. To a genuine boss you are his family as he have the responsibilities to make sure you have “food” to bring home to your love ones be it he make money or not.

I relate to the guest, if you experienced you came from a toxic environment and you go to the new place whereas it seems normal for some, yeah same reaction, woah

Thank you for sharing this, producers! It came in really timely as I’m at a stage where I feel like leaving my job soon in a couple of months, similar to Q, due to mainly mental and physical health reasons. I’m so glad that conversations like this are normalised and having other ppl out there prioritising this too. Even though I feel bad leaving the team and resetting my career growth process, it affirms my decision that it’s okay to step back and readjust to life on our own terms ❤ Looking forward to more episodes too!

For Joie's experience i had the same issue too. It was an investor i worked with for my startup. The investor/ business partner shows up late for all meetings, unaccounted for his lapses, and he always blames his partners' for his short comings

haven't see q for quite awhile. mental and physical health were indeed important. back when I was in secondary four close to a decade ago, I got hit in the head as I was in the field standing infront of the goal post as we were tasked to play girls' captain ball which the teacher reserved the entire field for us and my guy classmates who were outside the field, kicked the ball over the fence and hit my head. I had nosebleed and went home, since then I had trouble studying as I couldn't remember it. slowly everyday after school I forgot my way home. I was bullied by my classmates and many times they followed me home. my desk and chair moved to somewhere else in the school due to pranks. eventually I had trouble walking to school as my leg muscle shrinks. I had trouble standing up for morning assembly as I dont have the leg muscle to do so, back then I was an introvert, my classmates yelled at me for unable to stand and eventually I didnt attend n level, I completely forgot about the incident where I got brain injury, it was only till last month my doctor told me my pituitary gland was damaged. then I tripped and fall while going up the stairs infront of the mall, a week later I remember the incident happened nine years ago especially on how I injured my brain as I woke up from my dream and had flashback to the year 2014 moments before I had brain injury. my mental health was pretty much in a mess due to the incident as I couldn't carry on with my studies, not only it affected my n level, as I didnt pass any, I couldn't proceed on to ite. physically, I wasn't doing well as I had trouble walking normally which I kept getting glares. luckily physically back to normal, but I had problems with my memory, simple task like having others telling me things, I turned around and completely forget about it.

🥺 Thank you for sharing your story! We cannot imagine what you'd gone through! Glad that you're doing better now and yes, mental and physical health is truly something that we should not overlook. As Q mentioned, no job should be placed above our health! Sending you lots of positive energy and strength! 🧡🧡🧡

Left the “family” after 3 years. Similar to Sam, I now am fearful of a lot of things even after 6 months away from them. Sad thing is a lot of people don’t understand how it can affect someone to this extend.

What if the company you’re at is fine, but you feel like this isn’t your passion (in which may possibly lead you to not reach your full potential?) ? Like you’re doing okay, not the best not the worst but you just feel like exploring the world out there?

When someone can tell you when to work , what to wear and how to behave , you will never be a happy and a free person. Like confined in a matrix . Do the business you love doing everyday and everything will align when you feel free and happy.

IMO, its not so much that the older generation have higher tolerance. But rather their circumstances during their time did not allow them the privilege to leave. And in staying, they just built up their tolerance or immunity to the issue. For the younger generation now that have the privilege to leave over such issues, they are very lucky to be born during this era where theres more awareness.

Everyone in the company is just a number and can be replaced anytime. How to pull yourself out of the matrix? Make yourself valuable to the company. Till the point either company will lose money or unable to function without u or they need your experience & knowledge. But still, has to stay humble and not let your employer felt threatened. This way u will have the bargaining and negotiation power with the company. Plus, retrenchment list will not have your name.

The millennial way, didn't like the work culture, how the company requires one to move up the ladder. staying x years to move up. usually more than that 3 years Q said she would stay in. once i finish the 6 months probation. you can tell if they don't want you there or it won't fit.
@YouGotWatch
@YouGotWatch Жыл бұрын
exactly! probation is truly the best time to gauge if the company is 'the right fit' for you.

I realize the part about just finding a random retail job is harder than it seems. For me, I may come across as overqualified (Master's degree), not so good at hands-on work kind (cause big size), can't drive or ride a bike (for food delivery). So even though I applied for Apple Retail store employee (because I'm trilingual), also no response. I tried to sign up for tuition assignments also but gigs do start off slow and low-paying too.

The f word was blunt out by the boss , infront of me, maybe he meant to target at me or just blunt out of anger , the boss always has the final saying, at times comments will just throw out and you will second think yourself did you do correctly and right, despite changing the job i still do not feel happy cos i was getting paid lesser and need to work longer and the task is overwhelming and i constantly feel sad going to work, i do not know how long i am able to work there, one step at a time
