Тhank you so much for uploading such a breathtaking and productive video! I just want to say that I love your videos. The world needs more people like you! Spreading happiness, cracking jokes at times and teaching us in the most captivating way! So, after putting my avocados out on the balcony when it's calm and sunny in the morning and putting them in every night, they started wilting slightly, nothing too concerning since I'd expected that this would've happened. My oldest avocado, which is 25 months old, had been battling slow and mild, but rather concerning root rot, accompanied by maybe a small amount of fungus gnats (but ever since I removed the wood chips and dead leaves, they've kind of stopped spreading). Especially in February, a month after I repotted it, it started yellowing, dropping its leaves, I think I could even smell a bit of a foul smell. My beloved avocado tree hit rock bottom, it was dealing with so much- root rot, transplant shock, changes of soil, fungus gnats, cold shock and the mix had so much perlite, but it eventually recovered, but this root rot, it's nothing compared to before, but the brown tips of the older leaves constantly get bigges. And so essentially, the other day, I used a fungicide to water my avos, but I did wait for them to start drooping or showing signs of insufficient water, so that I could water them more. I did that, but tried not to pour the solution too near or too much below the trunk, but also not too far like to the edges. Some of the avocados started wilting more. I think the reasons are: fungicide, wind gusts (who probably briefly peaked at 20 mph) and temperature fluctuations. However I still think they'd acclimate and recover. And also my oldest avocado is the wiltiest one, but still growing pretty much like prior. If they look way too stressed out, I'll put them back inside and maybe wait till next spring. Do you think they'd recover or look more energetic?

Hey! It's so nice to watch these videos after the past couple of years that have gone by. We have recently moved into a house that has a very old avocado tree on the property. I'm not sure what type of avocado it is but from the previous owners, they said they planted it in 1965, and ever since it has been in the same spot. Just recently tried the avocados and they are pretty good, although they are more of on the smaller side. It's been fun to see your channel grow!

My avocados aren't that bad. When I put the droopy ones inside, they started to slowly recover. I think the cool winds caused them to wilt, especially in the afternoon. I have one avocado that I told some time ago that had multiple stem, it was growing rapidly before I let the more moderate gusty winds blow the stem. So I won't be bringing them out as often, especially now. But putting them out increases aeration and drainage, which is something I really want, to avoid root rot. But I have no idead whether or not they sell polyembryonic mangos here in Bulgaria. Hope they do

I'd like to start up my own orchard but don't know where to start and know nothing about farming. Do you think I should study an agricultural degree like agricultural science, agronomy etc or seek out an apprenticeship? How did you get started? I'd appreciate any advice you can give.
@SleepyLizard Жыл бұрын
if you want to go into farming you're better off with business knowledge. you hire the people with the agricultural knowledge. if your farm is big enough to make you money you're not the one who's going to be doing the work. If you want to do it as a hobby then study something that leads to a high paying job because buying trees is addictive and you'll be spending a lot 🤣
@ShaunyKnuckles Жыл бұрын
@SleepyLizard thanks for getting back to me. The advice is gold! So do study but study the business side of things 🤔. I'm already studying for a business administration degree. What area of business should I focus on next? Accounting? Finances?
@SleepyLizard Жыл бұрын
management. Farming is all about managing people, supply chain, customers, partners, marketing. Finance is also important. Accounting you can hire that skill set. it's all about efficiency. the profit is in the last part of the crop you pick, the little fixes you do yourself. etc.

The saddest things about my plants as of now isn't because my avocados are mildly wilting. It's the fact that the state of my mango. Unfortunately, after 3-4 we- actually after an entire month trying... trying to save it, especially around 2 weeks ago, it seems that the mango is not gonna make it. In June 30th or 30th June I bought my first ever mango, mainly for the seed, I ate half of it maybe, the other was for my parents. I took the seed, placed it in a wet towel, then putting it inside the drawer. But after a few hours it immediately got moldy. Then I tried the paper towel in the bag method, still continued to get moldy, however after peeling the mold, I realized, it was still reasonably viable and looked otherwise healthy. So I decided to hope for the best after planting it in the soil in my maybe 1 gallon pot. Thn after 9 days, I saw a thick pin root, which later turnd out to be the stem growing. It started growing rapidly and before I knew it, it had 4 nice dark green leaves, although 3 of them were very small. After 25th July, the leaves were fully mature, but it didn't grow new leaves and the apical meristem started slightly dying. I decided not to worry about that. It waited for a long time. The seed was rotting rather quickly. The it got infested with fungus gnats, even though it didn't appear as if the mango was streed out. After letting it dry a bit, the gnats flew away. But the apical meristem or the microscopic leaf, ready to grow died completely. After that, the leaves started getting webs. By mid August it should've had many new leaves, but it didn't. By 20th August it was getting obvious that it was infested with spider mites. But a bud appeared on the dead set of leaves. It was trying to grow new leaves. However they started rotting. After the seed died, which smelled so horrible, the mango started dying and you know what happened after that, the sprays the fungicides, which was all unsucceessful. I'm in a hurry, but I just wanted to say how it was doing. RIP my beloved mango (RIP MANGO 30th June 2023-15 September) you've literallly lasted the entire summer break!

Can we plant unripe avocado seed ?means can they sprout ?
@SleepyLizard Жыл бұрын
I'm not really sure at what point the seed becomes viable. definitely worth an experiment.
@АлександърДенев2 Жыл бұрын
@@SleepyLizard One time, I bought a small avocado for a huge discount around 0.69 BGN (or roughly 0.35 USD). And so essentially, got the seed out of the fruit, but the seed was much smaller (probably because the avocado wasn't sufficiently ripe) the top part was partially rotten, but I decided to attempt and try to get it to germinate with the tooothpick method, but I confused the bottom with the top, so it was upside down. Long story short, it died eventually. That was my first time in a very long time, that I hadn't been able to germinate an avocado seed, what would've been a rather unhealthy seed, had I managed to do it successfully, however regardless if I'd changed the water more frequently or didn't mix up the sides or not, the sprout would not have been healthy and resistant or resiliant.

Was your avocado scratched by an animal or bird? The avocado looks like an animal might or tried to bite it? If so, are they safe to eat?
@SleepyLizard Жыл бұрын
that scratch mark was from when I picked it and went to put it in the crate. I dropped it and it hit the edge of the crate and peeled the skin back then it hardened into that scar. When that happens I save the fruit for myself and my family. Like all farmers we save the rejects for ourselves. That said I will eat a piece of fruit that has a few squirrel bites on it, especially mango. But that's just me. 😝
