Some people think their texture change with length because it's heavier which causes curles or coils to stretch. This is usually the case with heavy products weighing the hair down and stretching it.

Products make a difference because it can be a defining factor in whether hair is getting sufficient hydration. When hair is sufficient hydration it does relax, which heavier products can do because it is giving the hair the moisturization it needs.

The only kind of texture change I've heard of, (which isn't really a texture change lol), is as your hair gets longer the hair gets heavier. So the curls stretch out more so it appears that your texture changed and got looser but really it's gravity taking effect. If I had to guess I think this is what that woman was referring to.

I think whom ever this lady is has texture and curl pattern mixed up. Hair texture doesn't not change with length but curl pattern can. That's probably what she was trying to say. Sometimes when your hair gets longer the curl pattern can "loosen" a bit. This is simply because you have more hang time. The weight from the new hair length can elongate your natural curl making your curl pattern appear looser. I hope that makes sense. But either way it goes her mind set is problematic.

Yes! Oh yes, the texture of ones hair can change from newborn to a few months past newborn,then by the first year for some children,during pregnancy,then around the 40s. All of these took place with my children and myself. I used to be a number 4a,b,c, and thick,but as soon as I hit into my 40s my hair changed completely to 3b,c,&4a. It also got soft. It's different for some people.

These changes your experiencing are due to many factors. Products, and chemicals exposed to. Chemicals exposed do can cause hair fall. The products you use on your hair can make a difference how tightly coil your hair is to how loosely coiled it is. Products make a huge difference, from shampoo down to styling product. They all play a role in whether hair reaches maximum hydration.

My hair was a 4a and over time due to iron deficiency anemia, turned into a 4 c. I started taking chelated copper, and it has changed my texture to 3c. Hair texture depends on nutrients in the body. Different minerals make the body produce more collagen and elastin for hair and skin. The copper makes my hair all over my body grow. Including my eye lashes and eye brows. It’s a fountain of youth. People of color age fast in our hair. Copper is depleted from our soils, and it affects our hair texture. There are other minerals and vitamins as well but I have seen the most results from copper. I big chopped because I had 2 different textures of hair. Fine curly roots and coarse,wiry , kinky ends.

I know I'm late, but before I got Sisterlocks last yr, my hair was completely different than it was in 2014 (began growing hair out). I intentionally focused on moisturizing to build up the moisture in my hair. What I wound up with was tight pen coils mixed with a curl pattern that looked like a ladder or steps as opposed to an actual curl. Also, my crown went from wiry to coily. I've always had kinky-curly hair, but didn't know moisture brought out the best in it.

BlakIzBeautyful it was two ladies in a Beauty supply store. They were talking to each other about once their hair reaching pass there shoulders so that they will be able to see their True curl pattern. Mind you these two ladies look like they’re in there 30’s and was rocking to big full natural puffs. It seem like there hair was long enough to see that their pattern seem to have no definition. I didn’t see any curls More like zigzags in there hair. The reason I didn’t say anything I didn’t want to kill there dream plus I wasn’t apart of there Conversations. They believe once their hair is long enough that they will be able to see the curls in their hair. Like a Looser curls pattern as to something tight and not so visible. I’ve head a lot of people that believe if they use a certain products that they’re going to get curl definition And etc. I had to pop that bubble for a friend of mine because she kept asking me what products are using to get your curls like that I told her what I use but I also let her know that hair products are designed to help enhance what you already have without using Chemicals. She was sad 😔 but she grew to love her hair and she mostly wears wigs or weaves now to protect her hair and so that she doesn’t have to do it herself lol 😂
@jackseve6 жыл бұрын
YOU ARE CORRECT!!!!!! Curl patterns do not change, if you have spiral curls, zig zag or even just coily hair that is what it is what can enhance it is how well you moisturize it and the products you use. It starts with shampoos down to styling products. The water your using on your hair also plays an integral role. There are many factors that impact maximum hydration. If your able to control all these factors your able to enhance how your hair looks and potentially it can give you a true indication of what your hair "really looks like" when it has the correct hydration.

Hi Janell! Maybe what she meant by" texture change" is she can't wait until her hair becomes more trained--meaning more curly or defined after using the natural hair products for twist outs, wash and go styles,etc. I had a natural hair stylist tell me "You either have to train it [natural hair] to be straight or train it to be curly" and that your hair has to develop "memory" as far as maintaining definition with each twist out take down or a take down of coils.
@Maria-sg4zy6 жыл бұрын
When I first went natural, ( cut my hair completely bald ) I did experience what some would call " Scab Hair" and it was horrible. It took me over 2 years to grow out that process. My hair was extremely dry and hard no matter what I did. I would let it grow out, then cut again. After 2 years, I noticed my hair did change. I wasn't dramatic, but I was now able to comb it, and do a twist out where as before, it wouldn't even twist because it was like wires. Then again after relaxing my hair for over 33 years, I'm not surprised at what I went through. #blessedtoevenhavehair. lol..

My hair texture hasn't changed, but my curl pattern did. My hair used to be described as curly, but now at waist length it appears to be more wavy; although, as a child I can remember my mother correcting me and saying that my hair is wavy, not curly. I think when I had a relaxer my hair was curlier which I find to be strange. My hair did not straighten with a relaxer. I have always been able to wear wash and go hairstyles.
@kellykoska51896 жыл бұрын
You’re daughter is a doll! Maybe the woman was referring to how ones texture can appear looser as it grows due to the added weight of the additional length.
@autumn_breeze1406 жыл бұрын
At some point maybe about a year ago I swore my curl pattern had changed from when I first cut my hair. My curls were so much tighter then I realized I was just using the wrong products for my hair and as a result my hair was shrinking up really tight because my hair was not properly moisturized. Once I started moisturizing my hair the right way to keep it moisturized my curls didn't curl up as tight and they started falling differently. I do think a lot of ppl confuse texture with curl pattern though and it is true that curls can start looking looser from the weight of the hair as it grows out. As far as texture changing on it's own outside of something medical or chemical I'm not so sure about that happening naturally over time but it's possible I guess. I've heard of ppl saying their texture changed as they got up in age.

I’m in the 3C, 4A category. My hair texture has not changed since I big chopped in 2014. However, my hair has gotten heavier, to the point that the crown of my hair is a lot looser than any other part of my hair. Not heat damage at all, just weight. I have heard that deficiency in iron, vitamin D and certain nutrients can cause the texture to become more limp and loose. Watch Ashley’s video here kzbin.info/www/bejne/nl7PfGuJbM-oY9E

As my hair gets longer, the weight of the hair and product stretches the curl so the texture may look different but my hair is still SUPER curly. I get compliments all the time, which is weird because it's in every sense of the word natural.
@w99066 жыл бұрын
Some people really do not know what to say when complementing another person. You explained it well. She may have been referring to your density. 🤔Not really sure, buuuut, NO, as we age our hair may lose density, but no texture change. Now, chemo and radiation may cause hair texture to be altered, possibly, but not necessarily.
@jackseve6 жыл бұрын
I am a former cosmetologist. You are mostly correct. There are certain traumatic events that can cause the hair to change like chemo, or some type of treatment that takes place on a cellular level. Hair typically is what it is from birth. Now, as we age at different phases it may thicken, more hair on the head, become more porous or normal porosity. The DNA sets what the hair texture is products can make hair seem to be softer or even more relaxed curls if the hair is extremely dry. Dry hair can attempt to absorb moisture from the air which can make it frizz and the texture appear to be kinkier and coiler. When the hair achieves maximum hydration the hair's curls/coils can relax, their texture has not changed their hair treatment has. Maximum hydration of dry hair can make a huge difference in curl/coil pattern.
@Ossouko6 жыл бұрын
It's something to do with your Hormones and age but it's not "I was 4c now I'm 3c kind of situation. "😂 However Chemotherapy will most definitely change your hair texture regardless your age. Some people get loser curls while some others experience thicker, frizzy and tight coils. It happened to one of my colleague, her hair got frizzy and thick ...she was pissed at first but got over it now.

When I did my 2nd big chop, my hair texture changed. When I first big chopped in 2012, my hair was low porosity. When I did twist outs, my hair was more defined and my twist looked juicey and plumped. My hair was shinney and not dull looking. My hair did feel soft. Yes it took a long time for my hair to dry with products but my hair came out so perfect. Then I started dyeing my hair. Then of course the breakage. So I did the 2nd big chop in August of 2016. I cut all the dyed hair off but jacked myself not thinking, im not cutting relaxed hair off, Im cutting natural. So my hair was very uneven. I went the barber shop and got a low fade cut with a girl hairline. I'm saying this because the barber asked me if I wanted a girl or boy hair line? I'm like wtf, I have options on a hair line? I told him i just want my hair even so I can restart my journey. Everything was all good until my hair started getting longer. My hair dries fast now, when I wash my hair, it feels rough and like the water is just runs through my high porosity hair, I have to sit under the water for 15 mins to even feel my hair getting soft. My curls use to be so defined under the water, no defintion what so ever. Products dry quickly on my hair and my hair seems very rough and porous. I have no definition, even with a wash n go. It don't look right. It's dull looking. I never blow dry my hair or flat iron. I deep condition and etc. Maybe my texured changed because I'm getting older. I'm 40 now. I have 4 abc hair type. So it's possible your texture can change. I want to relax and start my hair journey over again but I swore to never put chemicals in my hair. Oh, I use henna to dye my hair. Henna use to be my enemy now we're BFF's..lol. It's makes my hair feel like my cuticles are closed.

I feel like my texture has changed since I had my son. I think it is due to the combination of hormonal changes and extensive breastfeeding. If feel like I jumped from 4a/4b to a strong 4c (lol 5a+ if you really ask me😂). My products and techniques are the same but I have to show my hair extra TLC. I've even dealt with extensive breakage at the scalp ( not to be confused with postpartum shedding which I had too).
@majesticallymaiah6 жыл бұрын
Maybe the viewer was confusing long natural hair with shorter natural hair. When the hair is longer it becomes easier to do elongated braidouts and twistouts that may look like the hair is a looser texture. Finger detangling is something that I never tried until my hair was medium length. So, I had no idea it would look like the hair is clumping. Maybe she's unaware of shingling and other methods used to manipulate natural hair that may give the appearance of a change in hair texture.

I’ve big chopped and went natural twice. The first time was back in 2001 before all the gels and leave ins on the market nowadays. Back then, my hair was tight and had no coil. I typically kept it in a low fade. I decided to let it grow out and as it got longer I wore weaves. I noticed that after a weave caused some hair loss in the back and nape area that it grew back in rather soft and wavy...it had never been like that before. To this day the texture in that area is different from the rest, and overall my hair seems to be less coils and more curls. It’s not heat damaged bc I big chopped again just recently and all of it is new growth. I don’t know, the lady may be on to something but she shouldn’t expect it I guess.

I think I read that your texture changes like every 7 years. I don't know if mine did because I never saw my natural texture on it's glory unt I was 29. I can say with my kids the baby hair did change when they turned 1yrs. My oldest, however, is getting a bit of curl pattern change that started when she was around 8. The roots have bigger curls than the ends. Now the scab hair I did experience when I transitioned. Certain areas were hard, crunchy, and dry 24/7. Then 9 months into my transition the hair the grew under that was much softer. The curl pattern didn't change though.

I have heard of some women reporting change during and after pregnancy. I was pregnant last year and mines definitely felt different at the end of pregnancy but I think it was because I had so much hair because i had pretty much stopped shedding and it was always dry because the baby was taking all my water and probably some other nutrients. Once I stopped breast feeding and went through postpartum shedding, it went back to normal. So I don’t think it really changed, it just felt different because of other factors.

Texture is the diameter of your hair strands, curl pattern is not the same. Diet can affect the condition of your hair and that could affect you during and after pregnancy. Diet, products, manipulation and the water you drink and use on your hair are all factors that can influence how your curl pattern is. It can determine how sufficiently or insufficiently hydrated your hair is. This will make an impact on how the curls look. This is not and has nothing to do with hair texture. This is about curl pattern and proper hydration.

Just recently(summer of 2016) I started growing my hair back out again, and it’s about an half inche past my shoulders stretched. The top will soon be touching my shoulders. And I must say this time around my hair seems to be thicker and curlier than the first time I went natural which was in 2013. My texture to me has changed slightly. I have a mixed of 3c & 4a through out most of my head. But right on my temples I have 4b. Whereas before it was mainly 4b through our my entire head. My hair growth also seems to be more frequent. The only thing I could see, is her hair probably never reach maximum hydration and could be walking around with frizzy hair all day, so like you said it's probably scab hair that's not Trained yet which take time so maybe that's what it is... Great topic😉😉😉!

U have experience text change. I felt the change came once my hair started growing. At the length that it is, the text is a lot softer.

Yes, I’ve seen this happen once but the person became very sick with a long term illness. She had c hair and it’s now 4a/b. Her hair completely broke off during a bad bout of her illness and when it grew back it was very obviously different. Other than this incident, I’ve never heard or seen hair texture changes.

I saw it once. It was a natural hair guru. I forget who. I vaguely remember her saying as her hair grew longer, she noticed a slight texture change. Honestly, it looked like her texture change. It might have been the products she was using or her regime might have changed or lighting change. I am not sure. She is/was on KZbin.

My texture changed after I had my son. One of my white friends after each of her children her hair got curlier. But outside of major hormonal changes I wouldn't see why it would change.

Interesting subject. Thank you for taking the time to share with us. Iam slightly over 50 years old, menopausal with platinum (gray) hair and for the past five and a half years: old school natural (I use hair grease). I have not experienced “texture change”. I suppose it could happen to some people, though🤷🏽♀️

Never heard this before. The closest that I have heard is that length can stretch your curl. Oh wait, FinallyAmber posted a video showing how her texture changes based on her product used/build up. She said that people kept thinking she was doing something to make her hair more curly

It does sound as if this person is not happy with her texture as it is. To really notice texture change you have to know your hair at it's healthiest, properly hydrated without being over saturated in too many products. Then if something changes you will be able notice. For some people texture change can happen due to hormonal changes. This could be growing from babyhood to toddler, child to adolescent and, pregnancy or menopause (in women). I've heard of some straight haired folks turning wavy or even curly. There's also some whose tight kinky curls, loosen a little or loose curls getting tighter. Personally I've only experienced the babyhood to child and adolescent changes. I've also had a change with my hair having more hang time now that it's gotten so long. My puff isn't all round and gravity defying any more, it droops down. It would require some extra effort to fight the droop at it's current length. The roots look like tiny waves instead of little corkscrew coils because length has stretched it out a bit.

Hypothyroidism has caused some changes my hair, it’s more wavy than curly, it’s thinner but I expected that and it’s always dry but not breaking off. I also have scalp folliculitis so I don’t want to try a lot of products that may cause a flare up.

A KZbinr Actually Ashley did a video on this recently. Her texture changed dramatically due to a iron deficiency.

I think If it was dry and brittle and she never properly moisturized it, it could start to change if she took better care of it, but other than that idk.

The less heat applied and better caring for my hair causes it to appear as a different texture than when it was heat damaged and unhealthy.

I've experienced a texture change. My mom said when I was really little I had looser coils idk what tye but after her relaxing my hair for years off and on again my hair was a 4c texture

Hey mama, could it be that she was transitioning and when she said "change texture" could she have possibly meant going from the straight, limp, relaxed texture to her more kinky, curly, coily texture? Just a thought. 😊

Jenell, if I recall correctly, Elle never had the bald spot that babies usually get. Could you please educate us on your method to prevent this?

Texture change did happen to me. My hair was soooo dry that after moisturing and doing clay washes my true texture came through.

Your hair is so pretty and I love your channel. I’ve heard abt the scab hair situation but that’s all. Your hair is pretty so it is such a compliment that she wants to have hair like yours. Ok this may not be what you’re referring to but when I first BC is Oct 2017, it did look different than it looks now. It was curly but not as defined as it is now. I used to have to almost force curls, now I don’t. The curls are just there. I don’t even have to put a styler on it. I used to but not now. Does that constitute a texture change?

My texture changes depends on how much moisture my hair has. I have 4a

I was cotton ball kinky and nappy. It’s not the same texture I am having today and I noticed the change about one year now.
