Talking with ‪@JarrodsTech‬ and ‪@theTechNotice‬about what they consider the best time to buy a new laptop, as well as how much performance do you actually need in your laptop.
With Intel 12th Gen and Ryzen 6000 right around the corner is it smart to upgrade now or wait to snag the latest launch.

Let's consider another completely different mindset regarding purchasing computers: A legal pad of paper constitutes office supplies. You do not amortize office supplies, as it is used up over a relatively short period of time. Out of necessity, you periodically have to buy more legal pads. You don't have to wait for a new legal pad design; in fact, there has been minimal change to legal pads over the past 50 or more years. You buy office furniture, and it can be amortized, even if you remodel your office every year or two. If you remodel, it is more often a matter of choice rather than one of necessity; office furniture can last multiple years before necessity rears its ugly head. What of computers? Three aspects of computer technology are constantly changing and (hopefully) upgrading: software, hardware, and applications. Computer hardware may dependably last up to five years; software is often upgraded as frequently as monthly, as is the case for various OSs, or even daily as is the case for many anti-viral products. Some of the new software will not run on older computers. New applications are introduced to the market at fairly random frequencies, and sometimes call for new hardware and software to manage them. Suddenly the computer market sounds like the legal pad market! You use its components and your periodically replacing them has the same effect as if you used up the usefulness of the previous components. This suggests that instead of thinking of computers as amortizable office equipment, they should be though of as office supplies. It's a one-time purchase (albeit it can be a big one), and the budget needs to be prepared for the next purchase when the three aspects have changed enough to warrant a change, or when you use up the last sheet of the legal pad and have to sent the remaining shell to the recycling bin.

I'm excited to jump from i7-7700hq with gtx1050 to 12th gen 3070ti... but it's a waiting game because the laptop that I want doesn't come out till march. The 11th gen laptops now is such a tease with their price drops but thanks to the 3 of you who motivated me to wait for 12th gen instead.

Last month I picked up a Brand New Omen 17 laptop from Microcenter with an i7-11800, RTX 3060, 1TB SSD and 16g of 3200 dual channel ram for $999 USD ! I couldn't buy it fast enough. I paid as much for this entire unit as people are paying for a damn GPU. Its still a current model because the 2022 isn't out yet. I replace my laptop every 2 years. For this kind of money its a no-brainer. "I find that right after CES is the time to find the deals. I use this laptop as a desktop and I don't travel much so the giant power brick is not a big deal to me.

Guys, benchmarks for 12th Intel gen laptops is already available on 3dmark and geekbench. The singlecore performance is the same as 11th gen, but multicore performance is 30% higher in geekbench 5. So from games perspective you will not get any performance increase with 12th gen Intel CPU

Well, my laptop has a dead battery now and needs to be plugged in at all times to be used. When I got it, it probably had some battery issues already. Also, it became slower than my amd computer. I now need something easy to carry, that can last a couple of hours and that can be used to draw. I chose the samsung galaxy pro 360 13". I'll do mainly Photoshop, office, Krita and Samsung Note.

Honestly past year-ish the laptop market has had a lot of value. Just make sure you get a chip that works for you and a card with 6+ GB VRAM and you're set for basically anything.

When editing videos or rendering than CPu mathers and you need the lastest and greatest for max performance if thats what your into. But for most of these laptops are gaming based models , and quite frankly CPu does not mather much , the games runs the same on a 5800H , 6800H , 12700h-13700h and same GPU (rtx 3070) for instance.there might be a small fps difference between amd and intel but other than that it realy does not mather . GPU mathers most .

@@BenGKaiser Thank you for your attention. I do Architectural Visualization. my workflow contains rendering software like Twinmotion, Unreal Engine, or D5 Render and Lumion. These software are used mostly use GPU power, just like games. I consider laptops based on their game performance as games use GPU too. But unfortunately, there are a few tests of the software I mention. Most of the reviewers on KZbin talk about Adobe Software and don't care about the rest of the users.

Sir @Ben G Kaiser @Jarrod'sTech and @Tech Notice I'm on the Dilemma of choosing between 11800h or 5800h Legion 5 Laptop, I'm gonna be using it for photoshop, lightroom, casual premier pro and casual gaming .. I always hear that intel runs hotter but why are some of the reviews show their on par with AMD in temps ?? By saying intel runs hotter than amd, can you really feel by touching the keyboard or back of the laptop that it really runs hotter or just the temps from the software ?? Is waiting for the 12th gen intel gonna give me an noticeable performance for my usage ?? Does the faster active task performance of intel also noticeable specifically in lightroom when scrolling from photos to photos, brushes, synchronizing presets to photos ??

I think my whole struggle is which to purchase. I do graphic design so I'm running Illustrator, Indesign, and Photoshop at some point. Sometimes all at once AND I'm looking to start gaming more on PC. So I'm stuck as to what to buy. I was looking at the Dell Xps 15 9500 or the Concetpd 3 Ezel rtx. But with new gen coming out soon not sure if I should just wait or like they said, pull the trigger

Intel 12th Gen Geekbench score has been leaked. Results strongly suggest: If you need multi-core performance, you should definitely wait. If you need single-core performance (basic office/school work), 11th Gen is great.
