They had been killed in the initial attack. Israel didn't know this because they would not risk other soldiers for bodies even tho the soldiers themselves would be more than willing to fight for them.Their bodies were held and only released after the war. There is a similar situation today in Gaza with Hamas holding the body of at least one soldier that was killed during the 2014 war. And still holding at least 3 Israeli citizens that had mental disabilities that crossed into Gaza.
