Keith had made the comment when hearing Jimmy had a new band and heard a couple of the tracks that were recorded (before the album came out). Richards had stated many times he liked the guys alright in Zep but not the music. Same goes for Pete Townsend, who always ripped on Zep music. Interesting thing is, Page had played on early Who and Stones albums as the producers didn't like the respective bands guitar playing. Add to that, the Who almost lost Entwhistle and Moon who were fed up with the WHo's infighting and almost joined what would become Zeppelin. In each case The Stones and The Who, were two of the biggest bands at the time, both getting knocked off the top of the mountain once Zep hit the scene. More than a few in the business have said the negative comments towards Zep's music was sour grapes and being a bie jelly.

That song is very similar to “Since I’ve Been Loving You”. Almost sounds like a different take of the song.

Jimmy Page is one of rocks most amazing guitarists, an amazing composer first, almost all songs recorded for albums had multiple guitar parts, but he always figured out how to play it live on his own! Mighty impressive! I’m glad they never brought in extra guitar players! That would have destroyed some of the magic!

There wasn't room on that stage for a second guitar player. Everyone knows that. 😊

Of course. However, I would like to see any guitar player try and keep up with the band as well as Page did.

They should have added a second guitarist starting for the 75' tour. Would not have been a member per se, only for touring. By 75' many of the arrangements had become too busy for one guitarist to play. Many songs could not be reproduced live as a result, and several songs from Physical Graffiti and on really needed that second guitarist to fill out the sound. Just my opinion.

How can anyone say who’s better between the Stones and Zeppelin? You can’t compare them. Enjoy each one for who they are.

Imagine if page had a rhythm guitarist behind him. Would Page take the same risks as a guitarist if there was another player behind him? Page famously never played a song the same way twice. He would constantly be changing the phrasing and tempo of his playing. I honestly think a second guitarist would hinder Pages playing by forcing Page to play more conventionaly and not take those risks.

I agree with Keith Richards at least as far as live performances go. Zepplin was one of those bands that definitely needed a second or third guitarist on stage when they performed live, and the lack of that extra guitar or two is noticeable on so many of the recordings of Live Zeppelin songs

Yep. Zeppelin struggled live at times. A second guitarist would have helped.

When I was a kid, I had a dream that Bill Wyman quit Rolling Stones. Band hadn't found a new bass guitarist yet. They had to go on stage. Keef strapped on both a guitar and a bass guitar. It wasn't even a double necked instrument. It was 2 single necked instruments strapped to the one musician. Keef worked so hard. He kept moving his hands back & forth between the 2 instruments. He didn't miss a note, but he was exhausted afterwards. He said it was too hard to do that night after night, and that they needed to find a bass guitarist ASAP. 😌💭 🎸🎸

All the people arguing about which is a better guitar player are missing the more important point: These are two of the most successful guitar-riff-writers of all time. Nowadays, intermediate guitar players can learn to play most JP’s solos, but nobody is coming up with catchy guitar riffs like JP or Keith did consistently, album after album. That is the genius part IMO.

Presence is still my favorite LZ album - I don't care what anyone has to say about it. When you begin with Achilles Last Stand, then end with Tea For One, how can any album of work be any more blissfull? It's the Dark Horse of LZ album's.

It’s very fashionable among extremely online guitarists, who can play a gazillion notes per second with zero soul, to criticize Jimmy page’s relative lack of technique at phases in his career, So it’s a pretty salient point that he was almost always doing a pretty bang up job of representing like seven over guitars at once
@theguitarmusicchannelАй бұрын
Yes and at that point in time (the 70’s) no one was doing that. Page was able to do the job of 2 or 3 guitarists all by himself. If you listen to songs like “Achilles Last Stand”, or “Ramble On” there are like 3-4 different guitars playing over the track at the same time all overdubbed over each other. And he was able to combine all of those guitar parts when he had to play those songs live. Very few guitarists from that era were doing that back then. The only guitarists who were really doing that were Clapton, Hendrix and Beck. So while the youngsters of today write off Page, Jimmy Page was ahead of his time. He helped innovate the guitar to where players are today and that’s undeniable.
