I remember now why this has even lower quality: At first I uploaded this on TikTok. When I upload there they usually destroy the audio even more if I use ”HQ settings”… I really didnt think this would get that much views partly because of the quality. Instead It got more views in a day compared to any Metallica upload ever on this channel 😂 (100+ Metallica uploads)

I was 17 when this aired. I had the VCR all set, ready to record what I thought was going to be a performance of "King Nothing" to add to my "MetallicA" video tape, which was footage from Headbangers Ball, etc. This performance was amazing! It was right in the midst and mist of Load polarizing opinion and judgement of the band. They had begun each night of their tour with So What, but it was the last thing you'd expect to see on live telly like this! This was MTV Europe aswell, which really was a different vibe from its US counterpart. The award show here featured Simply Red, The Fugees, Bryan Adams, etc. I was giddy and gobsmacked when Metallica then blasted and fucked their way thru Last Caress/So What. Nxt day in school , my mates and I were buzzing about it, rewatching the performance again and again after school. Love the memories.🤘

@@supernothing77 No, it was live. 🤘🤘 And with MTV obviously not ready for what was about to go down, all the filth and the fury flowed outta Hetfield as it happened. It was absolutley fantastic. I remember as Robbie Williams (hosting the show) introduced Metallica, I hit "Record" on the VCR player. Back then, having clips, recorded footage like this was Gold. But, when Last Caress lashed out, I was surprised. Then So What swore itself into view, and I was utterly gobsmacked! I dont know if this ever got shown, covered on MTV in America, because this was from the Europe MTV. Id just seen them for the very first time a month before in Dublin. I was still on a High from it, so seeing this rowdy performance only continued the buzz.😁🤘👍

@@jwells6904 Yeah, thats right.👍 Times like that, you had to be there right infront of the Telly to catch it, and record it onto Video tape to keep it. In my house that night, my parents were watchin' something else on the main TV in the sitting room, where the VCR was aswell. I was upstairs in my room looking at MTV, and when Robbie Williams begun to announce Metallica's imminant performance, I hurried downstairs to record it as it was all set up on the VCR to do so! I ran back upstairs and was over the moon with what Metallica were doing. It was incredible!! 😁 When they finished, downstairs I went, stopped the tape. My parents looked comically confused at the happy state of me whilst they were still watching their own programme.😁 A couple of my mates missed watching it, meaning Id lend them the videotape for them to see it!!!

If it wasn’t for MTV I probably wouldn’t have gotten into Metallica. I was around 13 when I stumbled across the Until It Sleeps video one morning as I was getting ready for school. I was like “huh, so this is Metallica? Pretty interesting.” A couple weeks later my mom and I were at a music store (remember those???) and she said I could pick out a CD. I saw Load there sitting in the shelf and figured I’d give it a shot. I wasn’t even sure my mom would agree to buy it because she was always so reserved and proper. She listened to stuff like Journey, Michael Jackson, Boys to Men, John Secada…stuff like that. When she saw my choice she kind of seemed surprised and asked if I was sure because it was nothing like any of the music we listened to at home. I told her I heard a song from it on TV and liked it so she agreed and we went home. I played it on my little CD player and she stopped by my room to listen to it. Honestly, I wasn’t really vibing with it but I didn’t want her to know because she had spent money on it for me. The only song I cared for was Until It Sleeps, the rest were just not really appealing to me. After she listened to it a bit she made some kind of remark about how it was interesting but she didn’t seem too impressed. A short while after that she came back into my room with a box full of a bunch of old cassette tapes that I had never seen before. She rummaged around in it for a few seconds and then pulled out a tape. She read the tracks listed in small print on the side of the cassette and then held it out. “Listen to the track called ‘One,’” she said as I took the tape from her. My CD player also played cassette tapes and had a nifty seek feature so I was quickly able to fast forward to the track. As the sounds of quiet gunfire slowly faded out and an clean guitar started playing she nodded her head, confirmed that was the song she was thinking of, and then left my room, emphasizing that I needed to listen to the entire song. I was a fan almost overnight. There was a dude named Matt in my English class that was like the only rocker in my school, and he was always wearing Metallica shirts. Through him I learned about the band and their albums. I was totally a Lightning and Puppets fanatic back then and taught myself guitar so that I could jam along with my CDs. I did eventually come to appreciate the Load/Reload albums over the years as I got older and although they aren’t my favorites I still look back at this era with fondness because it reminds me of how my lifelong love for the band started 😊

👍I saw them in Dublin the same time, the Load tour, October '96. Without social media or mass internet use in general, the crowd as y'know yerself were gobsmacked that the band strutted up onto the stage with the lights still on. It was utterly surreal. No intro to get ready. Just there at the moment. So What was a fantastic opener! A terrific Fuck Off to the abuse flung at them for cutting their hair, changing too much, or whatever else people disagreed with. That tour won everyone over! The Finale: Nobody saw it comin'. The magazines didnt mention it, keeping things secret. So when the place "fell down" with flaming roadies and the band legging it offstage, the arena fell silent thinking something shit had happened!! They really put on a fantastic tour that time. Everything from So What's bullish defiance to staging the accident onstage to the cover set at the end with the small lights dangling, asthough its back in the Garage.

They still played music well into the 2000s but it was already on its way downhill by this point and there were alot of those MTV shows that had nothing to do with music popping up by this point.

The last song I sang at the last gig before I broke up my band was "So What". We only played it that one time, in front of a packed club, not even one rehearsal. It's posted on my channel if you want to hear people groan at the lyrics. 😆 (Though I changed the "school girl" lyric to "old nun").😂

Still don't get all the fuss over swear words. Like a word is only as offensive as you decide it is. Plus the words in question aren't even directed at anyone or any demographic. So why not just decide not to find any word offensive? Surely there are worse things to worry about?
