@Christopher Bingham She seemed quite satisfied with the fact that her marriage was ending (unlike Mary, who was in bitter denial).

@Christopher Bingham "I want you to know I'm very proud of you." "Really?" "Yes. I'm always bragging to my friends about my brother the rocket scientist." Yes, she didn't know the difference between a rocket scientist and a theoretical physicist, but the point is that, by that point, she was proud of his accomplishments, to the point where she bragged about them to her friends (unlike Georgie, who was still not speaking to Sheldon at that point). Also the fact that she was willing to come all the way out from Texas to Pasadena to help Sheldon in the first place.

@Christopher Bingham If a person is ever not upset their marriage is ending? It tells you they were not happy in the marriage. When she tells Raj she's separated from her husband in the car in TBBT, despite Mary denying it, Missy doesn't look distraught. She looks like she's accepted it. Considering how short a time (relatively) a woman is actually pregnant, that means she was ready for this split way before getting pregnant, because she's obviously either dealt with it emotionally already, (which takes longer than a pregnancy) or wasn't entirely happy to begin with.

She could quiet her conscience by giving $50 to the church. With the rest of the money use it to fix something or get clothes for your kids. I’m reminded of a tale where a guy is stuck on his roof in a flood and people keep on coming by in their boats trying to save him. He keeps saying “it’s ok God will save me!” Eventually he dies and asks God “I was your faithful servant. Why didn’t you save me?” And god says “I sent many people in boats to save you my son.”

The worst part is that it wasn't actually gambling as gambling involves monetary risk or betting property which is an issue with gambling as it can be incredibly destructive to people. Here she didn't bet anything she simply received it as a gift for free as form of an advertisement as such there was no risk of losing anything only chance benefiting or not gaining anything. Not only that but she actually won which would mean she would take the money from company that conducts gambling while not giving them anything in return and could spend those money either on personal matters or give it to charity.

Her character is really annoying, she constantly pampers sheldon and treats him like a king but Mary constantly slates Georgie and Missy all the time. The dad is no better, but he's a slight improvement but he threatens to throw georgie out of the house I mean what? The parents have both got narcissist personalities tbh. Honestly, Missy and Georgie and better off without them tbh and I'm glad georgie came out successful in life. I know Missy wasn't always nice to sheldon but as time goes on, I can see why people abore sheldon sometimes. I love both shows though but it still pisses you off when characters are asholes haha.

Mary reminds me of Phoebe from Friends when she found some money and returned it to the bank, then she was rewarded for it with a thousand dollars yet she don't want to spend it out of conscience. Because she said that if she'll buy a pair of shoes she'll be hearing "not mine, not mine" from every step she makes. So she gave it to her friend from the street. They have so much in common with principles, beliefs, and traits. My favs. Somehow, I can relate to them.

My mother in law is like her but on another level! My mother in law is old style strict catholic and she absolutely hates me despite me giving him an amazing life filled with love, loyalty and dedication. She hates me because I wasn’t a virgin until marriage and she thinks I was sent by the devil to drag her son to hell. She didn’t come to our wedding and turned his whole family against us. I would not wish that type of mother in my worst enemy. What makes it worse is she’s SUPER hypocritical! She’s the biggest hypocrite in the universe! She’s gone against every rule in the bible. She prayed for her first husband to be removed from her life because he was cheating on her, that same night he actually had a heart attack while fucking the other woman. Every husband she’s had has been from her sleeping with a married man, getting knocked up and forcing them to divorce their wives and marry her, all 4 of her husbands have abandoned her and her 4 children because they can’t put up with her. Plus she also sent her children away to different schools for their entire lives so they’re not all that close and they don’t celebrate things like Christmas like a normal family, they spend it praying all day at the church. She’s dying within the next couple of months. She’s a major asshole and ended up getting cancer in her asshole, stage 4 has spread throughout her whole body and she’s almost died a few times.

Why doesn't Mary just ask Pastor Jeff if it's counted as gambling? P.s. lotteries/sweepstakes are not quite considered gambling afaik
@Liedson9000
@Liedson9000 2 жыл бұрын
Gambling is the act of risking losing something in return for the chance to gain something. Simple as that. In the case of lotteries, you are risking the price of the ticket (which you would lose in case your ticket was worth 0) for the chance to win the lottery money. Lottery gambling is actually a very common addiction, mainly targeting the elderly. Lottery gambling addiction has been well studied and documented and I suggest you look it up if you are interested

@@Liedson9000 thanks I remember I looked it up before but not recently. But I remember there was a specific legal distinction as to how lotteries weren't considered gambling in some states. Then again there's just

I don't think we can quite judge Mary from this. I think there are some writing errors here. For example, 1 - why doesn't Mary just ask Pastor Jeff about it? 2 - why doesn't anyone esp Sheldon argue against why it counts as gambling?

For your Pastor Jeff question, I think it's because she didn't want to admit to the guy who represents God's authority that she "gambled" (even though she did not).

Believe it's in reference to "the casting of lots" and the puritan movement went forward with that meaning *all* gambling or games of chance. When what casting lots literally is, especially in the context and time it was written, is literally saying "Whatever this rolls on is what God/The Gods has decided."

This is the problem with Christianity is. They always define things on their own. First it's not a gambling if you didn't spent money on it. It's a gift. Secondly, you can't assume things in religion. Everything must have proof so the interpretation towards certain things will be the way it meant to be.
