I kept trying and failing to find a humourous way to object to this on the grounds that I almost never get a mike, even when everyone else has one. But this is because I apparently naturally do significant portions of the opera technique, so I don't really need one to be heard over an entire orchestra, and a lot of my projection carries over to other styles.

Dang, how do you just come up with melodies on the spot like that
@Hu3ymad3 ай бұрын
This might be a rare thing, but I can pick up little pieces of melodies I've played and kinda combine them. Idk if that's how it works with anyone else, but it's like that for me. That's the only possible answer I have lol
@damrong34443 ай бұрын
you follow the scales, in this case they used the blues scale
@random32i83 ай бұрын
@@Hu3ymad i can do only like half of that, i just pick up on melodies ive heard and i can just play them
@fivestarplaying35532 ай бұрын
@@Hu3ymad They definitely did a combination of that and improvising their own melodies within the key. A lot of the licks they played can be heard in a lot of older jazz recordings, which is likely how they learned them. Jazz improvisation (to simplify it) is basically combining transcribed licks, scales, and patterns to create your own melodies on the spot while maintaining the style of the tune.
@daan9094Ай бұрын
it's mostly something gained by practice. for me it's an ability which basically is having a song in your head, and then your brain unconciously adds onto it what you like. this comes from listening to a LOT of music, and practicing the ability to instantly translate the voice in your head to playing. there's also prelearned vocabulary which you add into the playing more deliberately.

i love jazz so much please tell me where and how people learn to improv this well
@kittykitty02048 ай бұрын
They almost certainly did not improvise this. It feels very rehearsed, probably because it is. But people who have been playing their instrument for a very long time and who have become very familiar with certain musical styles can be quite good at improv to just jump in and "make something up" that sounds incredible.
@krystalbuten34037 ай бұрын
Usually, you agree on a scale and set of chords/pattern to follow, and then deviation is up to you. This is made more complicated based on the fact this is jazz, so it’s more involved than this, but doing this will get you started.
@oscah_whisky7 ай бұрын
Do a lot of listening to Jazz and try to learn the melodies by singing (doesn't have to be perfect singing... unless you're a singer, lol). Jazz Blues is a good place to start. Learn what the Blues is. Learn a Jazz Blues "head" or five BY EAR singing first then play second (the main melody of a tune is called a "head" in Jazz lingo) even if you have to slow it WAY DOWN! Listen to the Jazz masters/originators for style and note choices. Only use sheet music for reference only AFTER you learn a Jazz melody by ear.
@Arccos2176 ай бұрын
It’s like learning a new language. Start simple with basic “words” and then string them together in a phrase. Eventually, just like when speaking your first language, you won’t have to think about making improv phrases. Just make something up; improv is best when it sounds like a conversation. Everyone has their own style, and improvisation really lets musical personality shine if you let it through variation in note lengths, articulation, and syncopation styles. Mostly, it’s muscle memory.
