Manish Purohit, former #ISRO Scientist discusses When Newton solved JEE Advanced question !
We know #JEE Advanced is one of the toughest paper on Earth for teenagers searching for College admissions (#IIT).
What if we tell you that a JEE advanced level question was once thrown as a challenge to #Newton too way back in 1695.
How would have he responded?
What is the #philosophy that the #IIT follows while setting the #questions for #JEE #advanced?
Lets find out together.

The curve you are taking about is called the “Brachistochrone Curve” And We can see that light does not bend when entering at 0 angle with the normal. It only bends when entering at some angle made with normal. This can be explained using Huygen’s principle, Maxwell Equation and ‘spin’ terminology of quantum mechanics, Light is electromagnetic wave. By Huygen’s principle we know that each point of that light wave can act as a separate light source. When light enters 0 angled to normal all hit at once but when entering at an angle to normal, the lowest point of the wave enters first then little up part then little up part..... when we draw Huygen’s figure and with the help of little geometry we can recreate many similar waves in denser medium but we will see all are at an different angle to the original wave. Now to know which all this wave is the wave that actually happens we need to solve Maxwell equations. We know that light is made of both electric and magnetic wave. Making two components of both wave, parallel and perpendicular to the surface rarer and denser medium and then solving the Maxwell equations, we will see that parallel components doesn’t change but perpendicular changes because of different value of permittivity and permeability of both medium and then doing vector addition we get the final wave and is the wave that we choose from all waves that we saw in Huygen’s figure. And why Maxwell equation does acts as it does is because of spin of photon. We know that photon has spin so when it enters into denser medium it’s spin changes and the spin changes in such a way that it takes the least time path. So the wave we get is the probability of all the wave with different spin. This is the reason why light ‘photon’ takes the path it takes and why at so particular angle.

The second question is not well addressed by the masses here, as I see. Photons can be viewed as a particle or matter wave (anyone of the analogies may be used to describe photon in any situation ). Btw, the quantity waving if squared gives the probability density function. Wavelets are generated as the photon crosses the boundary. These wavelets interfere, and the region where interference occurs constructively has the highest probability of finding the photon. In ray optics we consider that the ray passes through that region. So it really appears magical as how the photon decides which path to to take, though if you were to shut up and calculate, you would get to know the behind the scenes of the magic (not truly though). Yes, Huygens' principle also verifies Snell's law with its far simpler mathematics. However I am not confident enough about the validity of his principle with our present day understanding of things. P.S: I just know that there exists something called quantum mechanics.

Ofcourse there was Leibniz who had controversy with sir Issac newton till his death over who developed calculus. Even though both of em developed it independently. Newton work for calculus can be seen in principia and Opticks. Leibniz used Newton's infinitesimal as main work to develop calculus.

Regarding how the photon chooses the least time consuming path or "stationery time path" 1) it should be considered that the frequency of light do not change (modern day observation) and hence it implies that the time should remain constant now light travels through wavefront (Hygen's principle) ie light can travel in all possible paths including the point say B and hence there is no intention of light involved just property of wave

Scientist like newton and einstein are great thinkers who reaveal the laws of nature. Engineers are those people who use combination of these laws and theories to make pratical use of it Like if you agree And RIP to those who are comparing pure physics with jee advanced physics. Jee advanced actually test concept implementation and problem solving skills and not the pure physics.

If Newton hadn't discovered things like Gravitation, Modern Physics etc. Some else would have definitely did in another century or two (If Newton wouldn't have I am 100% sure Hawking would have). Now talking about Einstein what he gave was absolutely unbelievable. Do you think normal people like us would've even thought that mass can be variable? Time is not definite? Relativity? A big NO!

Let me know first question Answer of 2nd that may be true is that Photon does not decide where to go It's actually bent when medium changes such that it's makes least time path. Answered within minute so ignore mistakes..It would be better if I see this videos during my 9 and 10 class on that time always used to spend my whole day thinking and solving and finding logics.. Now an jee aspirant of 2022 so..no time

I think the answer of the second question is that as photon is a energy packet with energy=planks constant*frequency and frequency is inversely to time period the energy is also inversely proportional to time period, so by consuming more energy it will follow the short time path. Reply if I am wrong.

The path will be that which will have increasing dy/dx magnitude as that will result in the increament of maxm speed as a rest time takem will be minimum therefore downwards concavity will be the answe and that purple line is correct bcs line above and below that have less dy/dx mag change as compared to purple line...i hope im correct sir please address am i or not and if not please tell me my mistake...thank you sir for this amazing question❤❤

9:45 i guess SIR: light is EMR and photons are mostly present in excited state and majorly would not change direction by themselves so when is travelling there if we observe one photon it is ATTRACTED towards high refractive index region where speed is less.. so path chosen will be such that time taken would be less this is mainly due to excited state of photon and direction of photons

@Nimbus Education So the answer to the two of the questions would be this as per my 🤔 thinking the first one would be the BERNOULII'S BRACHISTOCHRONE And the second answer would be by FERMAT PRINCIPLE AND HUYGEN'S PRINCIPLE as the photon path would be treated as a source in this and there would be the minimum requirement of huygens' principle or we can say the huygen's construction. I am very glad that😇I found your channel sir but I am a bit late Hope i answered correctly and even if I have answered wrong pls do tell my mistake 😅 P.S - This was my first video which i saw on your channel😃

Fermat's principle states that of all the possible paths the light might take, that satisfy those boundary conditions, light takes the path which requires the shortest time. ... Since the speed of light is the same everywhere along all possible paths, the shortest path requires the shortest time.

Answering "How light know the path which take shortest time?" ----- this can be explained by wave nature of light. Wavefronts need to be continuous. At interface of medias one part of wavefront strikes first and remaining part still remains in previous medium. So in order to maintain continuity of wavefront wave travels such that it takes minimum time. Other way---- since nothing can travel faster than light in any media and light travels at its respective ultimate speed in respective medias ,hence it takes FASTEST path not SHORTEST path. Pls respond and correct on mistakes🙏🙏

Photon don't choose any path, photon remain busy to adjusting it's speed .and a photon particle or an em wave always connected to its source. I think thats two physical causes for making the cuboid. And using calculus it's find easily.
