That may be the most George Allen story I've ever heard. Paranoia was absolutely one of his tactics.

Allen would've been a perfect US government operative. His high-profile personality precluded that, though.

1. To this day, Roman Gabriel still holds Rams QB records for most games played/started, TD passes thrown and wins (his record as a starter was 74-39-6). 2. Getting fired in the pre-season during his second stint with the Rams .... only other time I can think of a coach getting fired in the pre-season was Allie Sherman with the Giants in 1969.

You know its funny.... Karl Sweetan was drafted by the Lions and Bill Munson was drafted by the Rams. In this game, Sweetan was supposed to start for the Rams and Munson started for the Lions. It's long distance foreshadowing of the Stafford-Goff trade.

Boy! George Allen was some character, wasn’t he ?? Saying something to the media and then accusing them of lying about it! 😊😊😊😊

That's what the major media does.

You sound like the Senator in Godfather 2 when Pentangeli says "I don't know no Godfather" "We HAVE A SWORN AFFIDAVIT!!" 😂

Allen was as you alluded to,a fantastic coach! He definitely had his quirks but he was very entertaining,

This video got interrupted by an ad when you said Rams. However, all I heard was Ram. Made me think the franchise moved from Los Angeles to Baton Rouge.

Allen during his tenure with Washington,he would take his office phone off the hook at halftime because Richard Nixon would call in with strategic suggestions.

Allen was known as Nixon with a whistle.

Suggestion: an episode on Karl Sweetan's attempt to sell a New Orleans Saints playbook in 1972; it was a big scandal at the time (Sports Illustrated had an article on it), but is forgotten today.

LMAO at the idea of a trustworthy media. 😅

George Allen was also a defensive coordinator for the Bears. One person once told me he thinks that by 1965 he should’ve succeeded George Halas.

I think that was mentioned in the NFL Network show called "A Football Life" episode on George Allen.

Discovering that Allen gaslighted the Los Angeles/Long Beach/Anaheim media is wild! That's quintessential George Allen.

This unofficial Official Jaguar Gator 9 historian will remind everyone you made a video about how the CBS affiliate in Honolulu briefly decided to air this game in a rush of indecision.

I hated the pre determined playoff system especially in MLB

One thing you failed to mention about Allen. His two wins after the 1972 season was the only time his teams ever won a playoff game. O-fer other than that year. 😏
@darrellmayberry77847 ай бұрын
SouthernGreyShark you are spot on about that and in Allen's defense those were his only home playoff games with wins over Green Bay and Dallas as his other playoff games all losses were on the road at Green Bay in 1967 despite having a 11-1-2 record over the Packers 9-4-1. The Vikings defeated Allen's Rams in the 1969 playoffs in Minnesota and when Allen was at Washington he lost in the playoffs in 1971 1973 1974 1976 all on the road as wild card teams.

Allen was indeed a character, but JG, it obviously has to be pointed out that he actually gave indication in his statement that it was not set in stone. “If I don’t I may regret it.” You mentioned in the video that this was part of his statement then like the media ignored it and the implications it has. Shame on you and them.
