I wanted to try something different with this new song. I invited some underrated singers to join me in this collab and I reached out to an underrated artist, @/artemiss.rose on Instagram, to commission the art for the song. Also, my amazing producer and friend, Grace, helped me a lot with the production of this song. We tried out different genres and techniques instrumentally. It was an adventure, trying something so different than what we normally do, but what's the fun in making music if you never try to leave your comfort zone?
I decided to make a song about some of my favorite plot points in the Dream SMP lore, plot points centered around the Sleepy Bois. Everyone knows there can never be 4/4 Sleepy Bois. I decided to enhance that angst and make it a song mwahahaha. I really hope you enjoy!

Kinda felt that myself with my friends, they have so much going on in their lives, so very different from mine, that I pretend to not have problems when I’m around them to be that bright ray of sunshine they need at times. Might be overanalyzing, but I can't help but love the instruments used when each member was emphasized in this song. With Tommy, there was the piano, a both peaceful yet sad instrument depending on the context, along with what I believe is some drums, what I'd call a more "aggressive" instrument fitting of our favorite hero of sorts, and some clapping, which I like to think represents his love for his friends, no matter how questionable they may be. Shows exactly who the boy is. A sad, hurting child, lashing out and yet looking for some semblance of peace. A small glimpse of what might finally be his happy ending. With Techno, you still have the aggressive drums, but with the piano replaced by what sounds like a violin or something similar, what I'd call a more majestic or elegant instrument, fitting for someone making powerful speeches and references to several stories, such as the one of Theseus for an example. Paired together, it gives an idea of a powerful, fierce, yet wise warrior. With Phil, it starts with something I can't perfectly think of the name of, but I wanna say something akin to the harp. Fitting of the angel of death. Soon, it's accompanied by what I believe is a tambourine, and some soft drums and(I think acoustic) guitar, adding onto that mystical angel vibe, alongside a faint reminder of power. However, the guitar soon gains a double meaning, as it draws a connection between Phil and our favorite criminal... Wilbur. This time, a more aggressive/electric guitar plays in the back, the drums picking up, yet both instruments are playing a bit slowly. The aggressive tone is obvious, as well as the guitar being our boy's signature instrument irl, but the slowness, the loud yet soft vocals. Reminds me of a certain ghost, who's memories, and emotions are slowly drifting back, leaving a permanent mark on his other half. What may come from it, no one's sure. But we can only hope it can lead to some good things before it's, once again, too late. And soon, a mix of all the instruments play together, in a perfect harmony. Showing that the young boy, the strong warrior, the wise angel, and his troubled son truly belong together. Showing they deserve a happy ending, but one they'll have to work towards and earn... but until that day, it's just Tommy, alone as signaled by the lone piano at the end. Waiting for the day his friends, his family, can be together in peace once again. But that's just my silly little take on it all. Sorry for the long read, seriously love this song! Can't wait to see what comes next :)

This got to me, because in my vision (even though Philza is not the father of Techno or Tommy) I see them as family. And the title “We’re Nothing but Mattered Friends” is like they gave up on each other in a way. Your music is truly underrated.

The “I’m sorry I didn’t become what you wanted” is emotionally killing me rn. How both Tommy and Wilbur are under the impression that they couldn’t be what the other wanted. Wilbur, that he couldn’t be the perfect leader he thinks Tommy wanted and that Wilbur’s been through so much that he can’t go back to being the old version of himself that he thinks Tommy wants more, AND also that he couldn’t be Ghostbur, who he thinks Tommy loved more than him. Tommy, that he likely thinks Wilbur left him to go build another van because he didn’t want to be friends with him anymore (when Tommy saw the van in one of his streams, he got upset and commented that he was the one that people-aka Wilbur-used to make vans with), but in reality, the reason Wilbur stopped talking to him was because Wilbur thought Tommy didn’t want him around and he felt that he was hurting Tommy just by being around him. I also have a feeling that Tommy is probably, to some extent, upset that he wasn’t able to “save” Wilbur the first time and stop him from blowing up Manburg and dying, maybe thinking that if he himself had done more, he could’ve saved Wilbur. He seems to blame himself for the downfall of L’manberg, so I’d say this is likely. They both have such high expectations for themselves (especially in their friendships) that, if they don’t meet said expectations, they end up blaming themselves for not doing so, and it’s so sad. :(

Omg first off the simple detail of having each character switch between their current and past versions is awesome. Love how the end of the chorus always has a different word that ends with an "ence" sound to describe something they did wrong. But oh my goodness each person's part reflects them perfectly. Tommy regretting holding his discs higher than people, Technoblade regretting ever trusting Tommy, Philza regretting not being there to help sooner and stuck blaming himself, and Wilbur wondering if his plans and power really made him a good person and if he really was more likable as Ghostbur. Yet all of them just yearn for their broken friendships, all still stuck in the past and not looking forward. "Why is it with you, everything's past tense." My HEART. And that's every Dream SMP song you've released so far! Great job Amanda, ButterscotchBread, Mizz Fish, Seigel, you all did a great job! I have been watching technoblades POV on the DSMP for a year now (as of December 5th) and honestly I am pretty biased at this point. I really relate to the character and actual person, I love C!Technoblade with all my heart and I just wish he had something truly good happen to him more often. He really deserves it. Sure he can be violent and destructive (with a reasonable motive and reason, even if he overreacts sometimes) but he really cares about other people. I wish he had more then just Niki and Phil (Rip Ranboo)

this song really takes on a new meaning now that the years have passed and the dsmp has ended. every year as we approach fall i find myself missing the old feelings, how even if the world outside was falling apart we were the happiest. at least, i was. i’m listening to all the old songs and artists that i used to love during that time, trying to bring back that almost magical feeling that seems to have disappeared. i find myself still chasing it, searching everywhere for that feeling. i wish i took more pictures during that time. i wish i saved more memories, even if we still have the vods and videos it won’t be the same. the line “if we could go back to how it was back then, when nothing mattered more than friends.” hits hard for me, it reminds me of Technoblades death and how it changed the smp and changed his friends. thank you for your songs, the comfort they brought me back then and even now i can’t even describe with words. o7

Phil really blamed himself for everything that happened to the family. He blamed himself for Wilbur's death. He blamed himself for being too late to save him. Killing his own son messed him up, and when Wilbur came back Phil defended him from Tommy's insults instinctively. He of course saw how Wilbur was different, but he didn't care. He just wanted to savor the fact that his son was back.

Fucking hell… I can always count on Amanda to make me cry over SBI… But you guys did amazing like holy shit. This is so wonderful and the lyrics just… Every lyric is a stab to the heart, but I couldn’t be happier because this is honestly everything I think of with the SBI storyline and you guys captured it so perfectly… I’m gonna legit cry. This is so beautiful, and the music??? It’s just AAA!!! AND ALL THE HARMONIES JUST. STOPPPP. NOT THAT WILBUR AND TOMMY HARMONY TOWARDS THE END TOO. TLDR: I’m crying. Why is it that every one of your songs shows me the stories behind them so clearly- Tommy : Tommy still just wanted his family to be okay again. He truthfully held nothing against Technoblade. Techno was, No, Is, Techno is his brother, and thats what Tommy would see of him. He only wanted everything to be okay again. Tommy knew he still wasn't the boy they wanted of him. He lost most wars. He lost what he cared about. He considered items over his friends and family. He only wanted everything to be fine again. Techno : He hated that the trust he gave to Tommy was stolen. But he didn't regret it. He would see Tommy as his brother, behind the hatred he had for him. It wasn't the first thing in his sight, but it'd always be there. The day Tommy was at his hose, the possibility of being a family again- Him, Phil, and Tommy -It was such a good hullihanation. But it wasn't coming true. Tommy betrayed him, back to his other friends. He wouldn't say he regretted going away from his brothers, but honestly, he did. Phil : He blamed himself for what his sons became. He blamed himself for the fact Tommy held his discs over his family. He blamed himself for Techno seeing anarchy before his brothers. He blamed himself for Wilbur blowing it up. He blamed himself for his death. He blamed himself for Tommy's trauma. He blamed himself for EVERYTHING. He wished he could've taught them better. He wanted the innocence they all had once, they wanted them to have it back. Wilbur : He regretted what he did. Blowing it all up. He didn't know if he even wanted to be back alive. Everyone loved the ghost he'd been. No one liked him anymore. He slightly wished he never came back. He wanted L'Manberg back. Or at the very least, Pogtopia. Before any of them started to drift. Before he lost Tommy's trust. Before everyone expected him to have a darker intention than the one obvious. Before everything.. *Before anything mattered, except friends.*

This is the first time i ever realize how all of the events in the DSMP shattered the SBI dynamic (inside lore ofc) and its sad to see how literally everyone in the group departed onto different roads, developing ideals very unique from eachother its tragic how despite the radical changes of mind, all former SBI (again, in lore) feel remorse and regret in their own actions and remember the past in a happy yet incredibly melancholic way Such a good song which resonates to everyone who enjoys all SBI members
