"Have you heard the sound fx in Deadly Towers?" - proceeds to play an absolute banger of a song.

If we're just talking sound effects, I'd say he's pretty spot on. Contra's are pretty bad. Music and graphics are on point though. Overall, that's a very strange category to identify. But it does go to show how differently non-gamers look at video games. Though, now that I think about it, SFX are actually a big part of my memories of old SNES games.

@@TheGameDisplay It's possible that he was thrown off by the fact that Mega Man features a score counter (comparatively rare for non-two player games). Admittedly, this is the first I've heard of this particular piece of video game misinformation. Other games that have had misleading information published about them include the SNES version of "Bugs Bunny: Rabbit Rampage" (was widely misreported to have an "Adjustable" difficulty at time of release by GamePro and others, even though it features no such thing), as well as multiple strategy guides and even its own manual transposing the names of the boss characters Bebop & Rocksteady in the NES version of "TMNT" (extremely minor in hindsight, but also a helluva thing to do at the height of late '90's/early '90's turtlemania, lmfao!). Thanks for uploading! :)

The Pokemon craze was also a gold(?) mine for cash-grab books written by people who had no clue about Pokemon or what it was about, but by god they were gonna make some money off it anyhow. My favourite one had the author interview children about their strategies to beat the game, and they wrote down the answers phonetically without double-checking any of the information, so we get gems like "Use Fisher(sic) to kill the other Pokemon in one hit!"

Haha, I remember that. Especially when it came to the cards, there were so many books and magazines and price guides! That's the first I've heard of that typo, but it's totally something that would have happened, haha. Takes me right back to when every teacher was calling it PokeMAN. I had my cards taken away a few times because just being in possession of PokeMAN cards was apparently a crime at school. Thank you for watching and commenting! :)

@@TheGameDisplay There was also an unofficial players' guide that I remember that was chock ablock with really off-model drawings. Every Pokemon just looked angular and mean and wrong.

This makes me think of those secret cheat code books that stayed around even up to the Gamecube era at Toys R Us and other stores. You never knew what you would get though and a bunch of the codes actually turned out to be wrong! All that aside it was still fun to read them.

I used to enjoy reading through those back in the day! Definitely came across a few codes that didn't work. One time I was reading a Secret Codes book in class, and the teacher was afraid I was reading about how to send secret messages to people while she was talking, haha. Thank you for watching and commenting! :)

Oh, I have a book like that. The best how to win at nintendo games by Jeff Rovin. I just had to go back to my room and find it. Mine starts with Castlevania 1,2,3. I got this book a long time ago when I was a kid 20+ years ago. I don't know where, but I always loved reading anything video game related. It's interesting reading a book like this because you have to put your mindset in different time periods. Also, your opinions may change as you get older because you are in a different state of mind. I also have 2 more video game books. One is for playstation and the other is N64. They have codes and cheats in them. I remember using them at the time when N64 was new and this was a great resource. Great review.

Very cool! As a kid, even before I could read I would look through the books and try to understand what was going on, haha. I agree, any video game related books are awesome! And I enjoyed those cheat code books as well once they started popping up. Thank you for watching and commenting! :)

When I was a little boy, my mom and grandma used to read me some books that were about Nintendo games. Like, its was a novelization of "Blaster Master" for example. There was also one about Mega Man, I think. I remember them being bizarre stories hahaha

Wow! Mega Man with a 2-player mode?! What is this, The Power Battle? You have to wonder if this guy even played the game or maybe he just sprinkled in a bit of lies to make the games seem more interesting. Really interesting video about these books along with a closer look into them! Keep up the great work Andrew!

It's possible he had help playing all of the games and when someone told him about Mega Man there was a misunderstanding somewhere. Pretty funny to read something like that now! I'm really happy you enjoyed the video, Andrew. Thank you so much for watching and commenting! :)

I had the green one back in the day, it's how I beat Shadow gate, the tips and tricks, are an in text version of a screen by screen walk through of a puzzle game, and the forest clearing capabilities of a hammer in Zelda II. Without that book, I would have never seen the end of those two games before the internet. I missed the glory days of Nintendo power by a few years, and chanced upon the green book in the late 90s.

They used to be all over the thrift stores, but show up less frequently these days. I've seen game stores with boxes of random odds and ends that they're selling off for cheap, and these books will often end up in those. Thank you for watching and commenting! :)
