Best comment ever and you're absolutely correct! I say 95% too. No nintendo there would be no gaming. I could care less what the haters say. U know the haters won't admit that. I remember I had the atari and I hated it. I stop playing video games. Then my Dad came thru with the Nintendo, and it was a wrap. Nintendo for life. Funny thing is, when thr smoke finally clears, watch nintendo be the only one left standing.

I was intrigued by the new content at the time, but the huge downgrade in visuals (and the lousy duplication of the gameplay) made TMNT 2: the arcade game, a huge disappointment for me (thankfully I didn't own an NES at the time so didn't spend any money on it), nearly as bad as Double Dragon on NES (to this day that latter game only appeals to me for the Vs. Mode, which still could be better, but was the best thing about it at the time!). we all wanted the arcade experience at home... and back then you could save your money and go to the arcade.

What!? That's basically unprecedented in its time. A licensed game in the early 90's having actual creative input from the IP's creator? Holy turtles, Batman! Mad respect to Eastman for sticking his creative nose into the project in a good way. Most IP owners at that time had only one question regarding the games based on their IP: "when does the check arrive?"

Punch Out alongside Super Mario Bros 3 are my top two favorite NES games. The game has a lot of personality and the characters all have a lot of, well, character. As with a lot of Nintendo developed games at the time it really has a great difficulty curve that slowly ramps up from opponent to opponent.

I got my Nes and Master System in 1986. Most kids around me got one or the other by 1986'ish. I believe the Nes really wasn't available to all markets in the US until early 1987. While the Nes launched in 1985 the video game market was dead in the US. Nintendo had to jump through a lot of hoops just to get retailers to carry it at all. After the Nes sold well in its two test markets (New York City and Los Angeles) Nintendo began releasing it solely in other very big markets. Mine came from Miami, Florida which is why I got it so early (same for the Master System). It really depended on where you live. After the Nes and Master System things got a whole lot better for everyone as the industry was thriving. My mother found my Sega Genesis in 1989 with no problems at all.

The Zeldas, the Marios, the Mega Mans, the Contras, the Castlevanias, peak Natsume, the Final Fantasy releases, the peak Sunsoft games, and the beloved standouts. Also, for Western players on a Sega Master System with no FM synth, the NES sound chip produced some wonderful 8-bit tunes that pummelled the SMS music. Inventive ways to produce sweet drum tracks on NES, which was totally impossible with SMS stock sound chip. NES music -- Batman, Konami's games, Journey to Silius, and have you heard Silver Surfer (poor game, crazy Tim Follin music)?

@griffgames9538
@griffgames9538 10 ай бұрын
@@jasonlee7816Without the Mark III revision's FM chip, the SMS lacked any impact drums or percussion. In 99% of SMS games (sans FM synth assist), there's no low end, no kick bass, and the snare sounds like someone tapping a pencil on a table. NES games like Ninja Gaiden, Super C, and Batman annihilate the music of SMS games. Punchy, pounding drums and low end to drive action games. This is coming from a SMS-raised Sega fan. It was clear to me even as a child that the SMS had the graphical advantages, but inept sound. Sega didn't update the hardware with a FM synth module because everything was fine and great with its stock sound capabilities. It's because it was very limited. Look at it this way - people do mod porting of games like Mega Man 2, Castlevania, to the Master System. They really try to push the visuals and sound. In every case, side-by-side the original NES version of the same music demolishes the SMS version.

I remember it was a lot of fun until I got step siblings and then they took it over and I rarely ever got to play anymore. This is a big part of why I never got into video games to the same degree as my peers. I still like to play games, but I don’t have that nostalgia for specific games that a lot of my friends played. The Genesis was my favorite from my childhood though. I loved playing sonic and streetfighter. And I thought the Genesis controller was a lot more comfortable to use over a long period of time.
