A Review of The Lord of the Rings: Conquest, Pandemic’s attempt to make a LOTR Battlefront.
I’m semi-happy with how the video turned out. I like it half as much as I should like it, although I like more than half of my videos half as much as they probably deserve. I think.

I loved this game it was one of few I had on my old 360, played hundreds of hours of split screen campain just having fun with it like a LOTR hack n slash game where u kill tons of dudes and become the heroes and villains from the movies it was great with friends. And then the multiplayer, which had tons of strategy and tactics even in 1v1 scenarios split screen we had

I understand why this game is seen as "subpar", but I enjoyed it and still do as do I the original BFs, and the newer BF2. I bet if this game released as a 2005 BF2 mod, it would be viewed as exceptional and people would love to play it. If you kind of view it like that when you play as opposed to a comparison, it's much more enjoyable.

@@mkscorp9152 Yes they were similar that was the pitch, but it doesn't feel like they were given the right budget or time to do it right. Battlefront 2 was a lot more impressive for it's time, the vehicular combat is solid impressive even now. Mercenaries 2, also was very disappointing after the great Mercenaries 1 (same devs).

I’ll agree that the story for this game was sub par but I honestly thought The combat was super good and not clunky at all. There was a lot room for uniqueness in how a player approached a situation. You could kick some butt as any class if you were good at it. Idk if you ever played the online component but there was a certain way to approach combat online and it differed compared to how someone who has only ever been exposed to offline gameplay. Online is where this game shines. It’s a shame the servers went down.

sneaking through the chaos as a scout picking enemies off one by one was an incredible experience, one that hasn't been matched since. the way the classes worked created natural teamwork that worked with or without communication. the combat with bots was lacking, but once you got a person behind the sticks everything changed. wish the game wasn't as short lived as it was.

Another game that needs a remake, fixing all the bad choices in the original. I still play LotR Conquest (PC), albeit solo vs the A.I. It's fun, in a low-key, deeply personal kinda way. Add LotR: The Third Age to the remake list, too. A fantastic turn-based game - simple, accessible, and all set in Jackson's LotR universe. Today's tech could render these games with the visuals they deserve. I enjoyed this video - a well-written commentary delivered clearly.

Nope, but if you really want something closer to galactic conquest in the LOTR universe, then you should check out the LOTR mods for Mount and Blade. Although, they aren't multiplayer, I think. Last Days of the Third Age is probably the most well known LOTR mod for Mount and Blade Warband. It's basically a more indepth version of LOTR Conquest. Follows the lore a lot deeper. You're still a nobody soldier and you can't play any heroes, but you can make your own character a hero.

Even though it’s not perfect not every game has to be. It doesn’t have to introduce a insane amount of content and variation as long as the core gameplay is engaging and fun. I could kick people off the bridges in minas Tirith or play capture the flag every day for a week and never get bored. The combat wasn’t amazing or allowed a crazy amount of variation but it felt good and always felt like the attacks had weight behind them. I loved sprinting into a group as they got close to beating us and kicking one while spinning around to take on 4 more. I love how heroes like Aragorn really changed the entire tide and you could just level hordes of enemies. Battlefront 1 and 2 were two of my favorite games on ps2 and Lotr conquest was easily one of my top 5 favorites on ps3

its a shame this game doesnt have mods. this game could be potentially fun to play actually with mods. would be interesting if we can make are own maps, campaigns, hero select, recreate movie scenes, create are own characters and custom classes select. one of the tings Pandemic did i thought was really kool they allowed us to play as Sauron. thats something i wish an existing mod that offers a story based gameplay of Sauron. i can understand youre argument about certain heroes/villains gameplay not perfect but i disagree with Sauron. i think they nailed it and was very satisfying in my opinion. just wish the devs went a little bit further with the character.

Like I wanted a Hunger Games game where there was a battle royale mode but also a Capital Assault Conquest mode where you captured points on a super large urban map fit with traps like the books and movies had and vehicle and infantry battles between Rebel and President Snow forces

I was so pissed when I first bought this game, tried online, and the servers were shut down already. Anyways, what you fail to mention is the fact that lorewise, there are no mages in LOTR; making the class system a bit pointless, at least the way it is shown here. You could insert other powerful ranged units, or add a bunch of Ishtari, but technically humans can't wield magic, as far as I'm informed.

I enjoyed this game to no end. There is still no other game which allows you to essentially play as any warrior seen in the movies or which allows you directly fight in the books battles. Also, while i did always find the co,bat difficult, I always thought that was one of the most enjoyable things abut it. I had to master it.

The thing I didn't like was that you couldn't have as many bots(never got to play multiplayer)as you can in the original Battlefront. BF1&2 had 16v16 while Conquest only has 8v8. Another disappointment was that bots couldn't take control of the creatures, only you could. These 2 things made the instant action battles feel no where near as epic as Battlefront. It still was a good game though.

I was on the forums leading up to this game. Most common request of "do not" in the game? No Mages! It's not lore friendly, and they really unbalanced both the feel and experience of the game. I couldn't stick with them because of that. Sad part is, they could have used more realistic/historic unit concepts that would have fit and been more balanced. A courier/supply unit based off the pilot? class in Battlefront could fit the healer role, and shield units could take to frontlines filling that role as well. But no, they wanted a high fantasy game and chose to kneecap what could have been an even better experience with a class no one wanted. And what was with the flaming swords? Not the worst game ever, but it had issues.

Many false promises were made like no man sky. Combat was very clunky, only the mage and archer were fun, scout was only useful for assassinating. Mage was too prominent of a class. Leader boards were only monthly, nothing else noteworthy of achievements. I had fun with it while it lasted.

I personally hated it coming off playing BF2 constantly. It was very clunky for me and I dropped it almost as instantly as I picked it up, though I would love to see DICE try and recreate it with today's technology.
