Berlin and Munich have always been dramatically contrasting cities. Their citizen and their mindsets couldn't be more different from each other. They both are among the best cities in the world, but for very different reasons.

Berlin is a true metropolis with a population of around 4 million. Munich is only one third the size of Berlin in terms of city area and despite its 1.5 million population is having the look and feel of a large town rather than a city.
The capital of Prussia and the capital of Bavaria have different historical paths, different demographics, different economies, different politics, different geographies, different dialects and even different beer.

Actually there is a big heroin problem in Munich... there are many people dying because of heroin, because there is no safe space where they can consume the heroin... this is the case, because the CSU criminalizes the addicts, so it‘s quite difficult to help them... and this party wants to represent christian charity, just ridiculous

As an American who has never visited Germany, or Europe for that matter, when we think of Germany, we always imagine Bavaria. There’s an amusement park called Busch Gardens. The park is sectioned into various European countries. The German section is folk music, festhaus, and the Black Forest.

As a Bavarian living next to Munich who has never visited America: yes we have folk music and the people wear folk clothing (Lederhos'n and Dirndl), but most of us do this only to the Oktoberfest (we call it Wies'n). Some people might be like in the video, but most of us not. It depends on your family, how you were raised. Not everyone from Munich is rich and arrogant. In fact, most of us are pretty normal. You miss a lot with this stereotype of Germany. Most of Germany is different. If you ever plan to visit Germany try to see the whole country - not just Berlin or Bavaria or the Black Forest. Visit the Wadden Sea and do a hiking across the ocean floor (yup it's possible in this part of the world). Enjoy a Fischbrötchen or visit cities like Hamburg, Bremen, Lübeck, Lüneburg or Münster. Go hiking in the Eifel or party in Cologne. Enjoy the baltic sea or our islands. Visit the lovely Spreewald and do a boat tour through this fairytale forest. :)

It's a gorgeous city. However. I was about 10 years old at the time and there was a definite sense of the German Stare at all times. "There is a CHILD? How dare these Americans have a CHILD? It's probably diseased." I was a very quiet kid, too, so it was pretty obvious the problem was the fact that I existed. This video is making me giggle. I'm from Munich and can't really identify with this. But I haven't been living in Munich for the last 24 years, maybe that explains it. When I visit Munich nowadays I hardly meet any people that are originally from Munich and the town has lost the atmosphere it had before the 90ies. Now it really seems like only rich people live in Munich. Everybody else moves to the outskirts or to other smalles cities in the area. Also I remember smoking weed in Munich in public was absolutely relaxed in the 90ies. Englischer Garten always smelled like weed and you would always meet some old naked hippies and people with their very own clothing style. Maybe this isn't about people from Munich, but people that can afford to live in Munich?
