Back in the late 70's it was always bats that used to fly about the hall in the late evening after dark - there were few pigeons - I guess the broken windows with its abandonment changed that.

Ha! When you're watching the one eat next to the open window, it reminded me of the bat that got in my home last year. I opened up the window and shut all my bedroom doors to encourage it to go out. I had to turn on a light to make sure to see where it was. It kept swooping back and forth, so I kept yelling and praying for it to go out the window. My mind kept running to whatever disease it could possibly carry 😂🥴😵💫

Awww... What I learned from author Robert Fulghum (HIGHLY recommend) is to reframe the story... that they are more afraid of you... Promise. Even in the case of pigeons. Although... they hide it REALLY well 😊 "So... Tell us about the troubles you're having..." "Well this home has been in our family for over three thousand generations. Then one day this guy shows up with a clipboard and starts pointing at things. Brings all his friends and they take all the best parts of the house and start messing with them! Didn't ask, zero concern for our well being... I mean, THE AUDACITY! It's a big house. We could have just given him a room or two. But NOOOOO... Now he has everyone in the neighborhood showing up and blocking the doors with glass, which is CRAZY sneaky, because you can't even SEE it when flying. Took out Harry last week. RIP Harry. 😓 We tried taking it to the authorities but they just don't seem to be doing anything. I don't know what else I can do. Mabel is just beside herself. She has been down on their level trying to explain to them... work with them, ya know? But they're not listening. Now she's staging a protest but I'm worried it's a waste of time. Sigh." 🐦

You need pigeon desensitization training. I too was terrified of flying birds due to a traumatic experience as a child but a friend with a bird helped me to overcome the fear. They are actually very gentle creatures except birds of pray. You could catch them up in a towel and put them in bird carriers. But first, desensitization!

I was at the Holland Public Museum yesterday (perhaps you have been there?) and was reminded of what a huge task you have ahead of you when you furnish Hopwood Hall. On the museum's second floor, there were several HUGE linen cabinets that originated in Europe hundreds of years ago but now reside in the museum. It made me wonder how far the Hopwood Hall furniture has traveled. I hope some of it is still in England and can find its way back to Hopwood Hall. By the way, I mentioned Hopwood Hall to the docent. She knew you by name only based on the film festival but was unaware of your latest adventure. I gave her an overview and she excitedly made plans to buy your book and watch your KZbin videos. - Bryan from Hudsonville

If you want to get rid of pigeons you need to catch the male pigeons. They determine their territory and lure female pigeons into their domain. I know because I had flocks of pigeons on my balcony. They only left after I had caught the male. Best get somebody with a falcon or make a breeding possibility for a falcon on your property, they will keep pigeons away.

Flying rats. Lots of work for something simple. You can get the piles up with a snow shovel. I work at Lowes here in the states and every few years the guy comes in with his mist nets, hangs them and clears out the store in no time. Get the mist nets and put them up throughout the manor. Hopwood, pigeons are used to humans because they are fed in parks and homes.
