When I was a Junior in High School, my dad told me about a story about when he was overseas, he and his buddies sent out a flag that was flown over Iraq to Drew Brees. He had an email from a long time ago that was sent back to him, showing a picture of his flag flying in the Saints' practice facility. We've been to a few games to watch Drew Brees play, but man, to know that his flag was flying in that facility, to me, is enough to put a smile on my face. The flag probably got it folded up and placed back into its original box (not sure), but I'm glad that my dad got the opportunity to have his flag flown there.

My cousin played at penn state, they had their annual senior banquet at the Bryce Jordan center in 1999. His parents were away, so he invited my parents and I in their stead. It was what sparked my adoration and love for football, especially college ball. The year was 1999. My cousins roommate was Brandon short and LaVar Arrington. I have a ton of signed penn state memorabilia…but the best was how I got my Joe Paterno signature. At the end of the banquet when everyone was leaving, coach was on the stage giving out good will handshakes. There was penn state royalty there along with a lot of professional football players. I took my mini-schutt helmet and weaved my way through these giant men to this little old Italian man. I went up to him and asked “coach paterno, may I please have your autograph?” And without missing a beat, he goes “hey kid I got a meeting at 5pm….I guess I can squeeze an autograph in,” as he cracked that signature smile. Gave me a handshake and picture. It was the greatest moment of my life outside of the birth of my children.
