I heard from a very close source to what happened that Barassi's message to the runner was 'tell Plugger to settle down' but the runner somehow misconstrued it as 'take him off'.

From the book “Footy’s Hall Of Shame” In 1995 Tony Lockett kicked a record 16 goals for the Swans but he could have broken Fred Fanning’s long standing record of 18 goals had communication with runner Craig Holden been a little better. Lockett, with 10 goals to date, spent 12 minutes on the bench in the second quarter after the runner came out and told him to “cool it” following the big fellows clash with Mark Zanotti. Somehow Lockett thought the command was “come off”. The match committee thought Lockett was off under the “blood rule”. In lieu of a stretch in the Hall Of Shame we sentence Craig Holden to an elocution course.

Hudson had the best rate/ output (goals per game) of ALL the great goal kickers.

Great player, that was an era where games were very high scoring, they changed the rules for the out of bounds so the last team to touch it, was given against. Many great goalkickers in that era, Hudson the best of them, Peter McKenna, Doug Wade, Malcolm Blight kicked a ton playing at FF, Jesaulenko kicked a ton, Geoff Blethyn at Essendon even kicked a ton. Loved those eras of century goalkickers, wish it was like that today

I’ve got no problem with the goal being awarded, but it was a throw. All kicks aren’t throws because the ball is dropped to your foot, not thrown in the air. I think that’s pretty obvious.
