Absoloutely gorgeous design, every aspect. Heat sink/chassis, circuit, artwork, everything. These sound fantastic and have good longevity if not abused. I had a couple PowerClass amps, which replaced the Art series in 1997. I was told by an employee at PPI the only difference (other than cosmetics/shape) is PowerClass has onboard crossovers, where Art series do not. * the crossover frequency pot is detented (click, click, click when turned), so you know what the frequency is set at after looking in the owner's manual. first detent is ___hz, second is ____hz, etc. I sold that amp in near mint, working condition for $50 to a friend about 5 years ago. He still has it and i'm considering asking if he'll sell it back to me.

The "art" on the ART series amplifies wasn't really my thing, but these were absolutely fantastic, PURE amplifiers. No crossovers, nothing that wasn't necessary to produce amazingly clean signals. I can forgive them for the hateful old power and speaker plugs. They weren't necessarily powerhouses partly due to the use of a fully regulated power supply design although the A600 and especially the A1200 made damn good power for the day. Tons of SQ builds were centered around these amps as well, even years after discontinuation. It's a shame that products like these aren't made today. These went out of production in 1996 if I recall, being replaced in 1997 with the PowerClass "PC" line, which I am even more a fan of (The PC2350 was a killer. Fight me...).

I had an Orion Cobalt 260, and seeing those connectors made me wonder if PPI had something to do with Orion in the late 90’s. Apparently a company called Direct Elecronics owned both companies at some point. Those connectors looked almost identical to the ones on the Orion. I was never too fond of that amp, especially after I replaced it with my JL 500/1.

@JasonWW2000 OWWWW! I bought a pair of JBL 2206 8Ohm pro 12's just to look at them since they are very similar in appearance. Good question. I know he has made comments before about sound quality of different amps.
@JasonWW200013 сағат бұрын
The biggest difference that I hear between amplifiers is the dynamic, explosive, controlled tonal character. Even at low power. You just need a sub or some speakers capable of playing that fast, transient sound. When you have the right combination of speakers and amp a sudden burst of sounds can make you flinch, even when you are expecting it. That always puts a smile on my face.

@justgotohm477521 сағат бұрын
It was slapping, and unlike the one tone ultra inefficient subs produced now the woofers then had tone, fast response, and a broad range. I’ve got a couple 1991 Credence DVC 12’s that sound fantastic, inside the car, not for the neighborhood. Although they take 2cu ft per woofer sealed, haha. The PPI 2075AM Art amp I have now would hit incredibly hard in front of a couple Cerwin Vega 15’s in the back of a Bronco II, in 1990.
