Not every individual needs kid is going to have the same problems, that goes against the very idea behind “individual needs”. This child probably has severe problems with emotional regulation, which is (for the most part) neither the fault of the child nor the parents. It’s unfortunately something that cannot be “fixed”, you can only develop strategies to make outbursts/meltdowns less common and severe. However, with the severity of the meltdown, putting the kid in cuffs was the only option the police/caretakers had. Even though it doesn’t help the child, it certainly prevented further property damage and abuse towards the workers. The parents trying to sue for $75,000, because the police were forced to use cuffs, is insanity. And that just tells me that the parents likely aren’t taking full responsibility for their child’s actions. I’ve seen this first hand. Parents putting their child through a bunch of IN programs, without taking any effort or responsibility over their kid. Taking every opportunity to get more easy money on the side from the government/organisations.
@GrGalan64642 ай бұрын
@@cp1487 Some degree of accountability, yes. He needs to know the extent of how he hurt others, from the actions of his meltdown. Though extensive punishment won’t fix the cause of the problem, which is emotional regulation. The way to “fix bad behaviour” like this, is to teach him strategies to counter this.

Edit: Yes I know that some of them may have mental disorders, some may be bullied at school or maybe pick it up from the social media or bad videos. However even if they do suffer from that, (off point ->) there is no reason for killing your parent(s) or family. Such as the girl who lied that someone had broken into their home while in reality, she stabbed her own mother multiple times. Another girl murdered her family because they wouldn't allow her to date a man over the age of 18, she was underage. I don't remember their name's, however I've seen it explained on youtube and there are actually results of it too if you search.

Putting handcuffs on a child who is actively hitting and putting people in danger isn't excessive force. Excessive force would have been hitting him back or throwing him to the ground (something neither of the officers did). Regardless of the child having special needs, this is unfair to not only the staff, but the child to not let the school do more to help in this situation. I think they genuinely should have been able to put him in a padded room (a lot of schools have padded rooms for special needs students - especially when they get like this). I think the lawsuit is bullshit and the parents are being too lenient on the kid. That's just straight permissive parenting believing the officer's conduct wasn't acceptable because your child was having a full on meltdown (over what, we may never know). That kid genuinely needs serious help.

I cant say much regarding how the school itself should treat a special needs child, since I dont have anyone like that in my family. All I can say is: if its a regular school the employees shouldnt be blamed for not knowing how to deal with such a child, and if its a special needs school they should probably get a course on how to handle situations like this one. Anyhow, if the family was truly interested in their child they wouldnt sue the cops for calming the situation down and stopping the child or anyone else getting hurt.

There was a struggle at first, then the officer was able to gain a *clear* advantage once the teen saw the other officer RUNNING up to them.... Then, officer #2 told the teen to put his hands behind his back- but, didn't ask or instruct officer #1 to stop punching.... in fact, officer had grown more confidence and threw harder punches *only* after the other officer showed up with the declaration of an arrest!!!!

I'm a substitute teacher and I sometimes work with kids like the nine-year-old. There are special staff who are trained to talk to them and physically restrain them if necessary. But it's pretty obvious where he is learning this stuff: the home environment, if there is one to speak of. And that's why he's angry. A lot of these kids trust and feel for their teachers more than their families, because they feel safe, seen and heard at school. Last week, a mentally handicapped girl was taken to a psych hospital by police because she was violent and her parents didn't want her home with younger siblings. -------- That second cop is way out of line and unprofessional: yelling, swearing shoving the young man and berating the mother. Yeah, he's a pain in the ass, but that's not the right response. He's not any better than another gangster in the neighborhood. He just kind of looks psychologically weak, actually, just because he has a badge, cuffs, and a weapon. AND, that's not an example of parental discipline like he's lecturing the mother about.

Where the heck are these parents, who are supposed to be disciplining these kids?! I swear, it feels like the bottom of the barrel is given free reign to breed. Then they wonder why cops get sketched out with every person they come across. Like that kid who got body slammed. Why didn't the mother shut him up? That cop handled the situation like a father should. "You wanna act like an adult man, you'll get treated like one."😠 The parents need to be held accountable. Then there's the father who left his glock in the backseat with his little kids in the car.....WTH GUY!😡 If parents can't discipline their kids properly, then maybe cops should just start calling child services and have the kids removed for neglect.

Disrespect for authority, lack of understanding when it comes to rights, disregard for their neighbors, childish behavior by parents, blaming others for their failures, no tact, lack of accountability; the list goes on. If parents are so worried about how others will view them or unable to stand on principles, they shouldn't be having kids or starting a family. In most cases, officers will turn a blind eye to proper old-school discipline. If the kids are disrespecting adults without fear of retaliation, then they aren't being raised right.
