I gave Sugar Ray Leonard a lot of credit for this fight. Leonard was doing what he normally did in the ring, but Leonard's timing was often so off that Norris just kept hitting Leonard throughout the contest. Leonard in his prime was often able to avoid those hard jabs and shots. The classic ring-rust finally got to Leonard and Terry Norris was too good of a youthful fighter simply exposing Leonard's age in the ring. I gave Leonard a lot of props during this fight. He kept going despite knowing full well that he was not going to beat such a young, raw superior boxer.

Being a huge Ray Leonard fan, this is the first time I've ever had the heart to watch the highlights of this fight. Even as a gassed fighter well beyond his prime, I'm struck by how he hung in there and continued to land combinations even though they were hugely ineffective by the 11th and 12th rounds. It wasn't as bad as I imagined although there was a moment in the 11th where Ray looked like he was ready to give up. Understandable but heartbreaking to see. Well, it seems like all the greats fight a few fights too many, not believing they've lost it.

Cherry picking as usual but fought better competition than most fighters in the history of boxing. You’re an idiot who doesn’t know shit about boxing, educate yourself before you speak on boxing or an all time great boxer.

1. Whenever Sugar Ray Leonard's name maybe mentioned, you will nOt hear Julian Jackson's name. 2. Don't blame Ray Leonard, Marvin Hagler (RIP) should have handled his business. 3. In their primes, Ray Leonard would beaten Terry Norris.

Ray really never looked good since the Hagler fight, which I still feel he lost. He lost to Hearns (yes he lost) he beat a very limited and weight drained Donnie Lalonde for two belts and really put in a snooze fest against Duran. That he actually fought again and was KO'd by Camacho is really a shame. Ray was an all time great. But because of his eye injury was never able to compete through all of the 80's and frankly probably loses a couple more if he is a champion and forced to defend against some great fighters like Curry and McCallum. Not saying they KO Ray, but Curry in 1985 is damn near a perfect fighter and McCallum although not exciting would be trouble.

Fast and adaptable to different opponents style, i loved watching Leonard and he was one quarter of "That Era", if only it collided with the following 90s Toney, Benn, Eubank, Hopkins, Jones, Barkley, Calzaghe, Collins era which was for all the wrong reasons in boxing mainly contested on opposite sides of the pond. The 80s and 90s were the middleweights era for sure where as the 60s and 70s seen the heavyweight superfights. The fight i wanted to see more than any was Leonard Hagler and at the time I so wanted Leonard to win but that was one that should have been Haglers. Nothing will ever surpass that 1980's series of superfights. Back then we seen peak fighters all fight one another unlike Mayweather v Pacquiao which for whatever reason happened 6 or 7 years too late. A 2009 bout for them is the only fight that would have been 80s middleweights level but again there is a side of boxing that now stops what should be unseen in any other sports, (money, and choice to avoid certain opponents either by the boxer or promoter) As for the later fights like too many legends for whatever the reason I wish hadn't happened.

Leonard put up a gallant fight but Norris was too young and too fast.

Norris was a very good boxer, and a great fighter. He was crazy aggressive, and that cost him a few times - and it cost him a lot after his career was over. Ray was too far past his prime here to take on Terry Norris. The spirit was willing, but the body just couldn't do what it used to. Looking at how many times he looked completely spent and ready to quit, only to come back with a good offensive flurry it really is mind boggling. You can tell that he's battling exhaustion as much as he is Terry Norris here. There are several times that it looks like he wants to quit, but he just won't let himself do it. Maybe it was the memory of how bitter the victory over Duran was when he quit that pushed him on. Who knows? But this fight is a testament to what a competitor he was.
