Rios was talented, for sure, and Federer is, well, Federer. But neither one was/is more talented than Rod Laver. His record speaks for itself. TWO calendar year grand slams, eleven total major singles titles even though he couldn’t play the amateur majors from 1963-1968, his prime years when he was in his mid-20’s, one calendar year pro grand slam (when the tour was still split), 78.4% career winning percentage, 200 total career titles, winning head-to-head record against Rosewall, Gonzales, Emerson, Hoad, Ashe, Newcombe, and Australia won the Davis Cup all five times Laver played on their team. No one in tennis history comes close to that record of success.

I am pretty sure neither is the case, and most likely whatever you *think* you know, either heard it from "someone who knew" ,or y'all coming up with your own theories. Not defending Rios' off court behavior (at all), but the man was very much to himself around other players and respectful (surprise!). Also, by 2002 he already had 5 surgeries (ankle, adductor removal (yeah, removal), and lower back). My point? You guys have no idea what you are talking about (In general when it comes to tennis. Your comments give you away) and what is like playing with (and recovering from) injuries. It sucks! But you don't know and you certainly do not understand (I hope you never do). Be good, people! Ríos lo vi jugar años. En mi opinión cometía muchos errores no forzados con jugadores potentes que casi no fallan. Ríos tenía golpes increíbles con ángulos impresionantes pero en puntos largos fallaba. Este tipo de jugadores de hoy casi no fallan. Ríos se frustraba con jugadores así y tiraba los partidos. No tenía cabeza para soportar puntos de alta intensidad. Incluso pienso que nadie tiene golpes tan angulados como Ríos y cambios de ritmo así pero no poseía capacidad para contrarestar jugadores que golpean muy fuerte

Ríos intentaba acortar los puntos porque nunca tuvo un físico privilegiado. Siempre tuvo que forzar su físico al límite, después de ser n1 vinieron sus lesiones más graves. Ya para este partido arrastraba una lesión en la espalda. No tiene nada que ver con lo mental, en cierta medida si jugaba más de la cuenta terminaba desgastadísimo. Es cosa de ver que jamás retrocedía 3 o 4 pasos para pegarle a la pelota cuando se le venía encima, sino que prefería pegarle de sobrepique. Marcelo tuvo que forzar su físico más allá de cualquier otro tenista de esa época, el no medía más de 1.66 cuando tenía 18 años ni tampoco tenía un peso ideal para jugar, obviamente lo suplía todo con talento, pero para llegar a ser n1 tuvo que forzar su físico al límite. Vean las entrevistas a su preparados físico y verán. También el mismo Ríos dijo que de haber tenido un equipo adecuado podría haberse mantenido muchos más años jugando. No hay comparación en la tecnología médica que hay en la actualidad y la cantidad de trabajadores que tiene un tenista de elite para ayudarle en la prepración física.

Para Marcelo Ríos este compacto es un buen resumen de lo que fue su carrera: Tuvo la mayoría de puntos ganadores pero a la vez la mayoría de los puntos que pierde fueron mas bien errores de él antes que puntos ganadores de Federer. Chino wn, en este partido tenía 25 años y ya ni corría... Después del 98, por las lesiones y sus excesos fue un retiro lento hasta el 2003 que creo que se retiró... a los 27 años, increíble que para este partido todavía estaba 25 del mundo caminando en la cancha y encañao... Siempre me da rabia pensar en por qué no fue un poco más disciplinado... Las lesiones de hecho fueron por indisciplinado, ni entrenaba.

27 años y con la lesión a espalada y rodillas a cuestas a eso sumado que cuando empezó con esa lesiones la indisciplina se lo comió, dejo entrenar, despidió a varios entrenadores y preparadores físicos en muy poco tiempo
