players, club, fans and league all know that referees in this sport must be treated with the utmost respect otherwise there is no game. It is drilled into players from the time they begin playing. It is not an easy sport to referee and they won't always get it right, but we all know that and accept that and we know not to even look at refs sideways otherwise the ban hammer will come down without mercy. In return rugby referees treat players with exceptional respect in return, and not only that I think the fact that most referees are dimunitive in size next to their player counterparts that corruption in referees seems not to exist in large part that if the players sensed there might be that they would take it out of a referee's hide.
