I always cringe at these fights. Most of kung fu is built on striking critical spots. Eyes, throat, groin. Kick boxing is actually built as a competitive sport with a set of rules. Kung fu doesn't belong in competitive sports. It's like taking half their setups away which make people actually fight very carefully. It's silly to bring it to sports. Same thing for Wing Chun. If you can't use half your kit you are going to just be at a disadvantage. I love the passion these fighters have but in the end it's silly. I feel like this is why MMA is basically the most complete style for sports. It's understood that the focus is sport then.

The narrator is right -- That "perfectly-timed kick" that sent Yi-long "crashing to the canvas" at 6:20 is something to be "replayed over and over again." Buakaw's kicks are so lightning fast that sometimes, like this one, you can't even see them. "So, what happens when a 'kung fu master' challenges a Muy Thai legend?" I guess we won't know until it happens. To his credit, though, Yi-long may be a Shaolin imposter, but he is a pretty tough guy with a lot of heart.

@lousifei2 күн бұрын
@@audreymlean-roberts1394 Yes, I know that Yi-long is NOT a Shaolin monk. "Yi-long may be a Shaolin imposter..." means "Even though Yi-long is a Shaolin imposter..." "Imposter" means someone who pretends to be something or someone that they are not. My point was that even though Yi-long is not really a Shaolin monk, he is still a tough guy with a lot of determination. A real Shaolin monk is a monk first and would not fight for sport or money. Also, a highly disciplined and well-trained Shaolin monk would possess the ability to use debilitating or even deadly techniques that would not be allowed in sports competition. I appreciate your respect for real Shaolin monks.

just one correction to the history of Shaolin Kung Fu , the basic 36 moves was brought from a buddhist monk that thaught the chinese monks "Indian Temple Boxing" what was a bit elder at that time and to help them defend against beeing robbed. that was tough times in China , war & warlords ! the VERY Original Monastry at the "Young woods" (Shao Lin, a modern name still spelled "Chu Lin") is not known , but the RESULT of their experience and hard training .... they are kind of "superhumans" .... the only chinese i respect more as Shaolin Monks is Jackie Chan!

Uhh...you're wrong that the Shaolin Monks created the art of Kung-Fu! The art was created by Buddhist monks who traveled from their birthplace of India to China and observed how the animals defended themselves during the travels. Then, these monks taught the Shaolin monks the different animal styles like Tiger, Crane, Monkey, Praying Mantis and Snake.
