I did have a leaf spring hangar break when I was about 1500 miles from home in the Salt Lake City area of Utah. Could not get an RV tech to even return my call! Called three of them in the area along with a couple RV dealerships. Nobody would help me. I finally found a semi tractor trailer mobile tech that came out to my campsite and welded my hangar back in place along with an extra piece of steel to really make it secure. Fortunately my rig was still under warranty and Grand Design paid for everything including replacing the worn tire that was damaged by axle not tracking properly. Really disappointed in the RV Techs in that area along with the two RV dealers I called for help. Thank goodness for the hardworking semi tech that came out.

I had a wet bolt break sometime between trips. Checking tire pressure I seen it. I had greased them 2 days before and it wasn’t broke so sometime between campground it broke so,glad I did a look a suspension.

I am having to upgrade my 2009 Carriage Carri-Lite (40 yr Anniv) 36 SBQ suspension. Tech pulled off hub and one of the "Nev R lube" bearings fell out and apart (burned up). Had 72.5 Dexter axles and Dexter advised me that the hubs were "discontinued" and they had "nothing that would fit those axles. It also had MorRyde "Comfort Ride" suspension. The entire suspension system was worn out and I am now upgrading to 8k axles with slipper spring suspension system. This was an unexpected expense but will be worth it in the end. Service Manager says once completed my rig will hold its value better than the new ones they sell.

Having to replace my WHOLE undercarriage on my 2009 Carriage Carri Lite (bought it 2 years ago) last guy DID NOT take care of it like he should have. “Nev R Lube” bearing fell out and was burned up when tech pulled off the hub. Found out from Dexter Hub on 72.5 Axles was “discontinued “ and proprietary. Contacted Gabe Cantu at Southwest Wheel in Dallas (suggested by Michael at Blue Compass Denton). Gabe is EXCEPTIONALLY GREAT at what he does!!! Ordered 2 8k axles and a tandem suspension kit. Now I just have to get them to cut off the old hangers and weld up new suspension kit. BTW Todd’s BIG BEARD BATTERIES are the BOMB!!! Bought one of those too!!! Customer Service VERY EXCEPTIONAL!!!

Just got new tires. While they were changing the tires they stripped the tin cover on one of the lug nuts. I had them put all new solid nuts on, no tin cover. I don't need to be pulling that tin cover off when I get a flat.

I agree with everything you said but you only skimmed over the hangers ( time and space) I have had 2 different hangers break 500 miles apart on a trip. After I saw how flimsy the hangers and braces were, I replaced all 3 axles at MORride. Day and night difference.

May I suggest inspecting your suspension as soon as you arrive at your destination? These are no-go items. If you find a broken suspension component, you are not leaving. It's best to know you have a problem before you need to leave.

Something everyone forgets and is so important and can save your towable and tow vehicle…. (Losing a tire) The wheel bearings on trailer .. bumper pull or 5th wheel.. i regressed once a year or 12,000 miles … full timing I normally grease twice a year to be safe…. This is so over looked and never talked about….

Todd, I'm still trying to figure out how that tire old school pressure gauge at 3:38 is going to check the temperature of your tires. I might have been asleep or playing hookey during the class on old school pressure gauges but I don't think so. Keep the good stuff coming buddy

I hit a helluva hole along the road going into the campground and blew a tire which also bent the rim. It towed fine on the way home and had my inspection team look at that side for any damage. They found none. I found I needed 3 or more levelers to pull up on to change the tire. (dual axle)

Strange is the timing of this video. Just yesterday (9/21/23) was "Grease bearings, wet bolts, and inspect brakes/tires/suspension" day. I crawled under the entire length of the 5th wheel to check stuff out and fill a few holes. Needless to say, I'm whipped and not doing a damn thing today. Where's my beer?

QUESTION: Are the torsion axles used for instance in Winnebago Micro Minnies and several other Trailers in the same weight range better than the more common leaf sprung axles?

I’m not even here for the bloopers. 😅. I bought a $35 laser temperature sensor that I use on my travel trailer axles every time I get gas. He checks the temperature to make sure they’re not skyrocketing and I don’t get a broken axle from having a bad bearing. !
